Hi bros..
Need advice on home rental. Any property agents here?
Reason being... there are 6 stranded thai ladies who need to rent a house in singapore. Their passport have been detained by the police and they are on special visit pass here.
I know two of the ladies and they do not know who to turn to for help as they have no friends here. They cannot work so money is short...
Any advice? They are looking for simple HDB house. (cheaper).
Cheers

Thank you for the valuable information.
Hostel? I may have to search for them, they are quite pitiful.
Stuck here and no source of income.
Cheers to all

Very simple, go Thai Embassy as for help as they are Thai nationals and they have temp accomodation for stranded or distressed citizens such as run away maids from Indonesia in case of the Indonesia Embassy. Unless they have doc to prove that they can legally stay in Singapore (such as WP, or temp permit issued by MOM) then opening HDB or other property to them is opening yourself to troubles with the authority.

Thai embassy may be an option but it may nt be the best solution as sometime the gals may not realli wish to seek help from there unless last resort ...
reason is that at the moment, the record of them working and get caught MAYBE contained only within Singapore and the Thai side may not necessarily be informed of their deed here (not realli consider a big case i feel for the police to contact the Thai counterpart as they are only make to stay here in Singapore to "assist" with the case" as if big case think they will be retain in prison etc.) thus by seeking help directly from Thai embassy will also meant that their file/deed MAY be pass to the Thai side since i believe the embassy also need to analysis and justify their intervention in providing assistance to the gals which may not be such a good thin for the gals since MAY become having record in Thailand also ... (clean to black record in Thailand - - jus like creating a long term problem to solve a short term problem here which i feel not tht worth) -maybe can ask the gals to clarify with the IO
best thin at least IMO (at least at this moment) is to
1.
find a cheap short term lodging (maybe a hostel) first before planning or seeking fr new places (u can also try finding place like chinatown/ gelyang/ little india or golden mile for cheap accommodation)
2.
ask them to seek more information from the IO (investigating officer) like maybe an estimation of how long they may be require to stay in Singapore with the case assistance and what is the current stage of the investigation now etc.
Although i know the 6 of them instinctively may wish to stick and stay together during this uncertain period but I won't be surprise tht some of them have their own "terrak" or "friends" here whom i believe they may had already try seeking help from esp if they had previous working stint in Singapore. thus if by any luck, any of their "friend" or 'terrak" are able to provide them with "help/shelter".
. Do ask them to accept and not reject jus becos they wan to stick and stay together etc. Finding accommodation for 6 is much much more challenging then finding for 2. try to settle the short term issue before deciding again.
maybe u can try to seek more updated status of the grp based on the no. 2 pt concurrently while u do ur house searching since in order to rent a house or room u will also mos pro need to know the no. of tenants and the period etc before making a decision and it also benefit both parties if some of the gals in the grp have ppl taking care of :)
Paiseh.. pls dun flame me :D as i think i had written too much but anyway that what i feel ...... haha
Jus help within ur mean

And they say locals are not helpful...
Thank you all for your kind advice and PMs on housing options!!!
There are a few housing options suggested and a couple of agents have approached me. Let me try to work things out for them and hope they settle down quickly.

If their passports are impounded by police, it may mean that they are being investigated for some illegal activities. They may even be illegal immigrants. No agent or tenant, in their right mind, will want to risk doing this business. You may even be implicated, for assisting them. Take care, bro.

TS, I concur that no one in the right frame of mind shd be helping these people. Yes, we are NOZt helpful because we KNOW its NOT legal!
Agents shd know there is no legal means to help to accommodate them! License will be at stake if they try to....

How to help?
The law does not allow a foreigner without a work permit to rent hdb flat or private property to stay.
The law also does not allow for short term rental now. Meaning you have to rent for 1 year under your name, not the girls.
3rd is any agents who help u to do this and in turn the girls default on rental, the landlord can take up the case that the agent is not doing his due diligence and get the agent suspended.
4th is if you are a landlord, would you want to rent to a group of 6 foreigners who had their passport confiscated by authorities and they have no means to pay?
Not say locals are not helpful but there is limitation. Probably u can rent something and let them stay under your name if possible.

If a thai citizen is stranded in singapore, lost passport no money to go back, the thai embassy will definitely help.
But if a thai citizen is stranded in singapore for prostitution, the thai embassy will not help. In fact they will turn away all these girls. Not say the thai embassy is inhumane but they cannot and will not help these girls.
If they do help, then they will have a lot of problems as many thai girls who go orchard tower work and no money buy air ticket go home, they just go embassy and ask for help will do.
The most possible way is to bring these girls to golden mile complex, ask them go to those shops run by Thais. Clue: provision shop. Let the girls talk to their country people. There will be alternate solutions offered by the thai community for this group of people. There is also cheap lodging in golden mile complex.

Really appreciate all the help and advice provided for this issue.
Luckily for these six ladies, a fellow samster is kind enough to provide them with work and lodging. let's hope these ladies can help this samster's business grow.
Since, everyone is wondering about the stable, these ladies are from, they used to be in passion candy stable.
