SINGAPORE – Elderly residents in Tanglin-Cairnhill can now use motorised scooters for free to go about their daily activities.

The Seniors on the Move scheme enables those with difficulty walking to visit essential facilities in the neighbourhood such as the food centre, market, shops and clinics.

Two scooters are available at each of the four participating senior activity centres in the constituency.

Member of Parliament Indranee Rajah said the grassroots initiative raises awareness about the enhanced Seniors’ Mobility and Enabling Fund. It covers items like walking sticks, hearing aids and spectacles.

Ms Indranee said: “As people get older, mobility problems are a big issue. There’re also problems of incontinence, hearing, sight. All the usual physical functions will tend to slow down or tend to deteriorate. The Seniors’ Mobility Fund is really to provide assistance for seniors who have need for things in this area.” CHANNEL NEWSASIA
