As advised multiple times here, exchange shops in Nagoya have better rates than at the port! Just ask in 2 or 3 of them, and take your money to the one who offers the best.

Indeed, I am very puzzled by the fact that now Singapore and several other countries (one is USA) do not place a stamp on the passport anymore.
I have just got my new passport, after the previous had expired and however had only two blank pages left. My old passports are a collection of relics, stamps from all around the world, which I safeguard as a treasure. This new passport risks to expire in ten years having still many empty pages! :mad:

OK, the good thing is that now immigrating in Singapore is very quick and there are no waiting lines in front of the automate gates.
For Indonesia, I am happy to have the VOA sticker :D. (but no, not happy to pay the 500k IDR)

Unless first off the boat, there is sometimes a short q at the Biz class priority q too with only 1 immigrasi officer. While there are multiple auto gates and usually a few empty. So can still be faster to walk over to auto gate to enter.

But will auto gate entry work???

Where is the place I should go to pick a taxi?

I am used to think that grabbing a taxi in Singapore is easy, but not always.
Last year, I made the mistake of deciding to take a taxi instead of the MRT, I followed signs through Harbour Front, and I had to wait some 45 mins at a taxi stand, where taxi were coming rarely and most of the times prebooked by some phone app.
I did not miss my flight just because a nice guy let me take a taxi before him.

He said everyone calls taxi with the phone app, but if I don't have the app, wifi connection, etc., then what?
I did not understand if it was a bad day of congestion, or is it normal that at the taxi stand of Harbour Front the waiting time is so long.

HF has a free wifi service. So can scan for it and register, to use ride app.

If u link the app transport payment to a multi-currency e-wallet, your ride also becomes cashless at very good exchange rates.

If the app operates also in batam (eg. Grab), this cashless convenience also in batam (and other places u travel to).

Better to link to a multi-currency a/c debit card/e-Wallet for best exchange rates (eg. Wise). Usual credit card exchange rates are terrible. Can also use the multi-curr a/c card for other payments for convenient cashless transactions at very decent forex rates. A lot more convenient than having to change and handle thick stacks of rupiah notes!

Once u make the booking within wifi zone and get the vehicle number, and the vehicle shows up very close by, the Grab app will instruct u to go to pickup point - think should be ok even if wifi is lost then when u go outside to wave at the vehicle.

Just wondering, if you are in a hurry why not take ferry from Batam to Tanah Merah Ferry terminal? or wherever you're leaving from in the Riau Islands. maybe timing isn't what you want, but it certainly can help you arrive at changi much earlier. Also, you can pre-book your grab and tell them to be at tanah merah maybe say 10-15 minutes after your arrival. Not sure how the immigration is at Tanah Merah, but my guess is it's not gonna be as bad HF on certain days and time.

I stay in Nagoya, 10 minutes from Harbour Bay => leaving from Batam Centre means a lot more time.
I buy my tickets with Horizon Ferry several weeks in advance, not the last day => changing ferry means to buy the new ticket, which takes time, and maybe there is not even availability.
From HB there is a ferry every hour or so => I can optimize my time and enjoy also my last day in Batam.

Consider that if I fly from Changi at 22:30 I take the ferry from HB at 16:30.

ABOUT BATAM
It is getting better! I was so disappointed during my visit in December. I arrived here 2 days ago and I am already overbooking my time with girls I know from previous visits and new girls met in Newton. 50% ghost after promising, so I still have 50% of them to enjoy.

I have a story that many will like.

We often report taxi and ojek drivers that overcharge foreigners. Long stories have been told about how to pay no more than 30k from HB to Nagoya, using Grab or walking outside the gate, instead of the standard 50k with taxi. (I note that the difference is just 2 SGD, but apparently there are many who believe this is worth the hassle). Standard ojek fare is 10k, but with Gojek one can pay just 6k or 7k.

I am used to pay without negotiating 12k to 15k whenever I take ojek. I keep the small money in my pocket, grouped in folded notes where each set is one ride. I have been scolded here, because I overpay ojek.
I have met countless ojek drivers who have tried to overcharge me (20k or 30k).

For info in case u don't already know, there is a Gojek pt at GBM lobby 2 - see pic. Very convenient to book grabcar to hotel at jodoh, probably about 20K only. Much safer than ojek and no need to wear oily smelly helmet. Unless u enjoy the thrill. :)

I take regular taxi only on my arrival to HB. Easy and just 2SGD more expensive than Grab.
No irritation, no attacks. Sometimes the driver tries to claim he knows where to take me for girls. Who cares?
I am used to say I am a regular to Batam, I was 10 years at Formosa, I have a girlfriend in Batam. All that is more than enough to kill even the bravest driver.

That seems to mean that BO there is not managed by the pub, but by the girls personally, who freely decide to accompany someone or not, depending also on what is offered. In other places, the BO fee is determined by the manager as in plain booking joints (I have seen that at Newton, to name one).

To be honest, my opinion is that you are aiming too high, have some too good expectation from your "first" (?) trip to Batam, therefore most likely you will be disappointed.

My FIRST advice is that you take your time reading a lot of pages from this forum. There is a lot you want to learn, but spread over long time.

My second advice is that, once you are on site, you grab an ojek (or taxi) driver, ask him to take you around for places where to book a girl, have a look, stop and choose one only if you feel there is some minimal chemistry.
Having a driver will make you pay a bit more, but you really need it (otherwise you would not ask these questions here).

Very good advise. When I first went to Batam I also went alone. And to make thing simple for me, I just flag a cab outside the terminal. Got on the cab and directly tell the driver I want take girl. The driver I took is a newbie in this, but he still call and ask around his friend for direction. So yea in the end he still manage to fetch me to a different joint. Said that, it is NOT completely pointless to have a look on Wechat/Michat. It may be worth to spend some time on that. In the past, I have met some genuine ladies, even a horny one with hijab (report posted years ago). So, the recipe is:

1) consider only profiles with photos not obviously fake because displaying Miss Singapore;

2) consider only profiles with a series of Moments, which look genuinely presenting a real person;

3) NEVER invite the person directly to the room after just chatting (someone got a TV in the room, and if you are not super street-smart it will be difficult to expel that out of the door), but:
a) videocall first to see the real person;
b) meet in the lobby or better in a cafe, before even considering to invite someone to the room.

Now what? During my last travel to Batam my attention was caught by a profile which passed tests 1) ad 2), except that the photos were strongly photoshopped. Well, I thought, in Asia it is normal to adjust photos with those filters that make thin chin and big eyes, so I considered to proceed to step 3).

I started chatting, she offered ST for 600k and LT for 1.3M. I told her "I am going to dinner, so join me there". I was assuming to meet a lady willing to have some company. After some struggle, a lady completely different from the young cutie in the photos showed up at my table. She was fine anyway, around 25yo-30yo, gentle and looking honest. She insisted to go to my hotel as soon as I finish dinner, and she wanted ST with money first, because she had been cheated by many already (her words). That's plausible, however I rebutted that my intention was to go to party first, then I would have called her later. She left saying"ok call me if you want later".

At this point, I went to Grand Dragon Pub. After a drink, scared by the 4M price to get one of those super girls back to my hotel, I went back to my hotel and I thought to text her, because I felt tired to hunt. She responded immediately, even if it was 2am: "room number please". Even if I got to meet her in person just 2 hours before, I never do that. So I told her I was waiting her in lobby.

A friend (cewek) in Batam is looking to buy a house in Piayu. That house is still under instalment with the bank, and she is buying under "take over", which mean she pay a sum for the "deposit & installments paid" plus renovation done, then carry on the remaining installments payment to the bank until full payment made..

Apparently, this sort of takeover is very common in Indonesia.

To be honest, my opinion is that you are aiming too high, have some too good expectation from your "first" (?) trip to Batam, therefore most likely you will be disappointed.

My FIRST advice is that you take your time reading a lot of pages from this forum. There is a lot you want to learn, but spread over long time.

My second advice is that, once you are on site, you grab an ojek (or taxi) driver, ask him to take you around for places where to book a girl, have a look, stop and choose one only if you feel there is some minimal chemistry.
Having a driver will make you pay a bit more, but you really need it (otherwise you would not ask these questions here).

Your plan (your "kind of scenario") is too detailed. Do not overplan. The more details, the more things will go differently. Follow the wind. Enjoy the freedom to explore.

Don't consider sure that you will be happy and the girl you book will give you good time. It's a combination of luck, instinct, ability. Go to Batam several times, and you will have some epic fails, but also some really good experience.

You really need good luck, but also effort from your side to help good luck.

The probe began in 2022 following complaints from passengers, and local media reported about the investigation on May 29.

On May 29, Indonesia’s Business Competition Supervisory Commission revealed that operators charged 800,000 rupiah (S$67) to 900,000 rupiah for a return ticket from January to June 2022, more than twice the usual price of 270,000 rupiah to 450,000 rupiah.

An ST check on the websites of ferry operators found that round-trip tickets from Singapore’s HarbourFront Centre to Indonesia’s Batam Centre International Ferry Terminal cost $34 to $60 in 2021 and $56 to $76 in 2024.

Mr Ridho Pamungkas, the commission’s chief for northern Sumatra region, told ST that four operators are under investigation for alleged cartel practices, with their Singapore-based parent companies yet to be summoned. Attempts by ST to contact the companies have been unsuccessful.

“The prices now are unreasonably high. It appears the businesses have agreed to fix prices at similar high values, so there is no competition between them,” he said.

Mr Ridho noted that ferry ticket prices between Batam and Johor Bahru are lower despite the longer two-hour journey, so the Batam-Singapore fare is “an unhealthy sign”.

The commission has faced “many obstacles” during its investigation over the past two years, such as obtaining information on the operators’ expenses, he said.

“The ferry operators’ management was uncooperative in providing data, making it difficult to gather evidence,” Mr Ridho said, adding that the parent companies being based in Singapore – and thus outside Indonesia’s legal purview – only complicated matters.

The commission’s head office in Jakarta held a focus group meeting with the Transportation Ministry, BP Batam and the Riau Islands provincial administration on May 28 to discuss the high fares and possible collusion.

A follow-up meeting will be held in Batam on June 11, this time with the ferry operators in attendance. “We are committed to resolving this problem,” Mr Ridho said.
