Singtel disruption: Fibre broadband services fully restored, 10% discount on broadband subscription for December

Published 10 hours ago

Updated 5 hours ago

SINGAPORE - Singtel said that fibre broadband services were fully restored on Sunday (Dec 4) morning, in an update at 9.50am.

"As of 8.25 am, Singtel fibre broadband services have been fully restored," Singtel said in a media statement and on Facebook.

The telco offered customers a 10 per cent discount on their broadband bill this month.

Customers who are also Singtel mobile service users will have their local mobile data charges waived for Saturday and Sunday, said Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, head of consumer services in Singapore.

Mr Yuen said that Singtel's servers could not assign IP addresses to customers' modems, and the investigation of what caused this is ongoing.

IP codes are numerical addresses that help computers communicate with one another over the Web.

“As our immediate priority all yesterday and overnight was to fully restore our services, we will now conduct a thorough investigation into what triggered the disruption - specifically why our servers could not send IP addresses to customers' modems to enable broadband connectivity," he told The Straits Times.

"Once there is more clarity, we will share our findings with the regulators and work with them to ensure measures are in place to prevent any such recurrence.”

Singtel also promised to review its processes to prevent another serious disruption.

"We are taking this incident very seriously and are taking steps to review our processes to prevent a recurrence," Mr Yuen said.

However, Singtel customers commented on its Facebook page that broadband service in some areas were still not restored on Sunday afternoon.

"Not working in Punggol," commented Martin Karthik at 12.38pm.

"Mine is still down and customer care service line still putting me on hold," said Shiow Yi Tsay at 12.42pm.

IMDA investigating Singtel broadband disruption and service recovery measures

SINGAPORE - Some users of Singtel's broadband service are still having trouble with connecting to the Internet, with several taking to social media to express their frustration.

This comes after the telco's fibre broadband service experienced an islandwide outage for nearly 24 hours over the weekend.

The outage started at 8.46am on Saturday, and Singtel said services were fully restored at 8.25am on Sunday.

But some netizens said on the telco's Facebook page on Monday that they were still facing problems getting connection.

Responding to queries from The Straits Times, a Singtel spokesman reiterated that all fibre broadband services were fully restored on Sunday.

"We understand that a small number of customers are still having difficulties and we are actively reaching out to assist them to troubleshoot their connectivity issues at their premises."

She added: "We apologise once again for the inconvenience caused and thank our customers for their patience."

The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) issued a statement on Monday afternoon: "IMDA takes Singtel’s service disruption very seriously. IMDA is investigating the cause(s) of the incident and the service recovery measures taken by Singtel."

Singtel sure to get fined . These shows how much time we spend on the internet .

This shows you got a lot to learn still.

So fucking Wat if fine. Even if fine 10 million so fucking Wat. It doesn't go to subscribers pocket.

And most importantly it's all left hand 2 right pocket. Shittel will report 2 their board. N board will ask shittel to appeal fine or improve measures.

But ultimately temsek don't care. Cos the fine still goes 2 garbagement
