Sorry if it is at the wrong section. Don't know where to post this but I really want to see if someone else experience this. The last few months after I experienced slow access to Sammy Boy, the situation improved but now I kept having to log in when navigating to different section of the Forum. Is this normal? Sometimes, I am prompted to login again even when switching from one thread to another. Is there a bug or is the authority sabotaging Sammy Boy to make it difficult for us Samster? Anyone has same experience? Sammy Leong, any comments? Thanks.

Yes. I encountered this problem also ever since the website back to normal. Even you tick the 'remember me', sometime still have to login again. :(

No, I did not leave it on without touching it. And its a recent thing. Looks like I am not alone. Logging on is not an issue but sometimes you have to log in a few times at one go to get to the next page. Just wanted to inform Sammy, in case he is not aware. Worst, just wondering if someone is redirecting us to somewhere else for whatever reasons!

For firefox users especially, under the remember passwords section, manually configure it to remember your login and password to this site. You just have to do this even if you click remember password at login.

I guess this is something to do with proxies.

If you are using a direct access line without proxy, it doesnt happen. If it happens on such, then you need to check the option not to retrieve from cache, on the browser.

If you use proxy, then the proxy sort of caches the session, and when another request is made for the same page - it retrieves from the cache.

Now this is fine if only one user is using the proxy. If many are using, then it creates a big confusion for the sammyboy website.

Because the stored cookies and such dont match. It just signs you off, thinking you are not the same guy.

Resolution ?
1) as Evo76 mentioned, save it under firefox.
2) try to surf without proxy (this is ISP dependant - some ISP has no proxy, no surfing - because if you surf bad sites, it seem to be their concern  )
3) get your own dedicated internet line - from 3rd party ISPs, like Qala, Viewqwest and LGA (their policy is if you surf bad sites, it is your problem)

My 2 cents. If anybody has any better solution - please share share.

keeps ha;pening to me ... thougth it's my PC config. evidently not! its irritating to have to keep logging in.

actually i found that if the "login" page appears u can just click the back button on IE and then try to submit again. u may have to do this several times - the downside is that u just might do a double or triple post.

try with another browser, like safari or iE

sometimes, the isp sort of prioritise traffic.. and SBF gets low speed

same on starhub / SCV.

not much can be done for that though

My problems are even worse...getting into the Sammyboy forum webpage itself is difficult, not to mention the actual logging in at all. Have to keep refreshing on and on. Also the webpages are not loading up as quickly as before. As some of the bros here said, the problem surfaced in the last 1+ mth only...:confused::confused:

Use firefox, it should be faster in overall.

I believe the server does backup everyday during midnight for an hour or two. During this timing, it will be hard to log on to it. Also at this timing, the post reply page will get a little temperamental after you submit your post. I'll just refresh and resent the info whenever I hit an empty page.

i got the same problem of being log out too and it gets frustrating when you want to access thread like The Sammyboy link/Picture exchange Plaza which require you to log in as a member first.

one way i learn to get the server to remember you as a member is to log in and access those threads which doesn't require you to be a member.

after some time, you can start going to threads which require you to log in before you can view.

hope this helps. :D

Could it possibly be the damage to underseas cables in past one month.
And it also depends on where your ISP hub is ... my office network is extremely fast ... but Starhub is slow. So when you have slow speed, it sometimes doesnt connect to sam's server thus error .... but I think, unavoidable .... the ISP would care two hoots about us surfing sam's site.

Wad do u mean by ISP Hub?As i m does't knw much bout COM's thing? But i using singtel line. So i think it should't be slow till i cant connect to sammyboyforum right?
As i use my company to log in SBF its quite fast.

We have to recognise that volume of traffic plays a big part in how fast we can access a website. When you do it in your office, it is working time and the traffic volume to SBF is less - that's why you can access very fast.

When you do it at home it is usually between 10pm - 1am which receives the highest volume of traffic - that's when you faced those problems bros have just described.

Try surfing early in the morning say 6 am. You will find it is a breeze because traffic volume is minimal.

Sorry bro Compassion but I beg to differ and I've been monitoring the situation quite closely for over a month....

Most of the time I login from 11pm till 2am and I use both IE and Firefox. When I login using my ISP, I'll have all the symptoms that the bros here faced (slow, DNS error, database error, login already still brings you back to the login page).

However, when I login thru my company's VPN (which the server routes to US and back), using SBF is smooth as silk... Both IE & Firefox works without a glitch...

Traffic or ISP...? I'm sure bros here can draw a conclusion... :p

I am not too sure coz I never surf SBF from office. When I am at home, I try to surf SBF and other International sites at the same time. I notice the SBF pages are either slow loading or DNS error or page not found, etc... while all other International sites are OK. I think SBF servers are overloaded with heavy traffics from Ah Q's or Cecilia's fans :D

yes at certain times logging in and surfing is very sluggish...the only other time experienced such sluggish speed from SBF was during the upgrading of the server..

On the part about having problems with the login and password, I've recently found out and solved the problem when I changed the website address in my bookmark from forum.sammyboy.com to www.sammyboyforum.com.

If it is an ISP problem, then whatever site you serve will give you the same problem. When I hit into problems accessing SBF site, I tried other international sites and the problems disappear. If it is not traffic how do you explain it?

When I serve early in the morning when most people are still asleep, I never encounter those problems we are talking about. Again how do you explain it?

Using a company's leased line increased the speed tremendously and also weed out other traffic. That's why there is no glitch at all.

Maybe Boss himself might want to throw some light into the situation.

Probably something to do with the fact that all singapore ISP route connections through their proxy servers.

My sentiments exactly... I think proxy plays a very important part here. Filtering/prioritizing traffic by the ISP could be the possibility... The problem exist regardless whatever the time/day I surf SBF...

Thanks for answering boss... :D

I am not saying ISPs don't play a part in the problems we encountered. When they sense heavy traffic to a particular site they filter/priortize access to it. So it is still a traffic related problem regulated by the ISPs. I never have any problems surfiing during the day time esp in the early mornings. BTW my ISP is Starhub using max-on-line.
