These loan sharks are really creative. Do watch out of scams

SINGAPORE: Unlicensed moneylenders have been using a new tactic in which they make use of unsuspecting social media users to harass debtors, said the police on Wednesday (Dec 20).
The loansharks would pose as women on matchmaking, dating or social networking sites such as OKCupid and Locanto to look for male partners. They would then direct the unsuspecting men to meet at addresses belonging to the debtors, by giving the impression that they would be meeting their date.

The men, clueless about what was really happening, were also instructed to take photos and videos at the door to make sure that they were at the correct address.
The loansharks would then send an alert to the debtors, saying that their runners were there to harass them.
In its advisory, the police said users of social networking sites should take the following measures to prevent falling victim to such tactics:
Be wary when befriending unknown people on matchmaking, dating or social networking websites
If in doubt of the other party’s intentions to have a meet-up, do not agree to their requests
Arrange for meet-ups at a public area

They have no fear cos they are in the dark.

I read that some of their runners are actually customers who can’t pay up & coerced to do the dirty jobs. These runners have never seen the loan shark in person b4. So even if they r caught, can’t lead the police to the Operators.

Now they come up with this new trick probably becos run out of runners🤔

Love the police advisory to users of matchmaking sites!

"Be wary when befriending unknown people on matchmaking, dating or social networking websites"
Every single person you meet on these sites will be unknown. That is the reason why these sites even exist, so that unknown people can hook-up. If you are wary about talking to strangers, maybe a pen pal is more suitable?

"If in doubt of the other party’s intentions to have a meet-up, do not agree to their requests"
Your only doubt should be if the other party really wants to have sex. The intention to meet-up is obviously for sex...

"Arrange for meet-ups at a public area"
But sex in public is illegal no?

Being an Ah Long is really tough in Singapore -- lending money is easy but collecting money is difficult. When they impose some "pressures" on the debtors, e.g. splash paint, threatening words, the debtors then call the police. :(
