Not sure about where to stay, but for shopping, you could certainly drop her off at the Emporium and then walk yourself over to Soi 24 and 24/1. You will find plenty of full-service MP's there :D. Selection is usually better after 4-5 p.m.

Since you are staying at Key Bangkok hotel and Asoke BTS/Sukhumvit MRT is only 3 mins walk away,just take MRT and drop at Huay Khwang (4 stops and 10 mins) and you are in Ratchada - land of the soapy;) One tip, at Key Bangkok hotel, u can ask the reception whether the rooms with jaccuzzi (only two rooms) are available.Just need to topup a few hundred bahts and u get a nice big room with a built in jaccuzzi for 2.With your ipod u can listen to your music while you enjoy your dip. Personally I prefer the Fusion suites hotel further down soi 19 (opp healthland massage centre). The Key Bangkok Hotel is near Soi 19, 3-minute walk from Asok BTS. Soi 24 is right off Phrom Phong BTS, just one station over from Asok BTS.

Another good place to drop off your wife is BodyTune, a traditional massage joint on Soi 24. They have a courtesy tuk-tuk to take you in front of Emporium Beauty Service, it is 15 meters from BTS.

Motorsai is a better option because it's generally fast and costs only 10 to 20bahts based on the distance traveled (i.e. BTS station to BTS station.) Costs for longer distances will need to be negotiated with the driver. ;)

Whether you can walk from Thonglor BTS i not sure because i took a cab down and it wont cost you much as well... And the Club starts at 6pm-2am Daily.. How to attract girls in the club i'm sure it's your personal skills already.. but if you don't mind talking to them openly and buy them a drink you might get a chance :D and there is no mamasan concept there all is free and easy... Hi, I prefer the view at the state tower.

I don't really remember the price but i think the bill was 3000 baht for a bottle of white wine and some tapas at the sky bar. Vertigo works out to be about 1000 baht for 2 glasses of martini.

Had dinner at sirroco at state tower before, which i think was not really worth it. So you may wanna just stop for drinks. There's better food for that price elsewhere.

You can check out sofitel, centara central world or column hotel, I think prices should be pretty similar.

Speaking of a good nights out, there's many restaurants and nice bars at CDC (crystal design centre) which you wanna try.

State Tower got Sky Bar, 370 B per cocktail 5 years ago.

Vertigo in Banyan Tree hotel got Moon Bar. Stayed in that hotel 4 years ago, so just headed to the Moon Bar for a drink as well. At that time, price was same same at 370 B per cocktail in the Moon Bar.

There is no entrance fee in either place, so just pay for drink only. In Sky Bar, there was standing room only for bar patrons. In Moon Bar, there were a few seats for bar patrons. Sky Bar was more beautiful, but Moon Bar was more friendly.


Was on the observation deck at Baiyoke Tower once. Too many tour groups and too crowded, so definitely NOT recommending Baiyoke.

Banyan Tree and State Tower about same price 300b+ per drink. For food and overall, State Tower slightly more expensive. Anyway, this roof top bar trend is quite passe these days. Was popular 5 -6 years ago but these days, most gals (especially those office corporate girls) know this place so unlikely to wow them like before. That "Sleepless in Seattle" effect has worn off.

Flood arrives in Bangkok

City Hall has advised residents of over 200 households outside Bangkok's floodwalls along Khlong Hok Wa canal in Sai Mai district to evacuate to two temporary shelters on Wednesday

Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra issued his second warning on Wednesday.

He advised residents of those areas move to two shelters, at Sai Mai and Rittiyawannalai schools in Sai Mai district. The two shelters could accommodate 2,000 people.

The water in Khlong Rapheepat in neighbouring Pathum Thani province reached a critical level after another section of a dyke, about 200 metres, built along the canal was breached today, allowing the floodwater to pour into the area.

Soldiers based at Khlong Rapheepat asked canalside residents to urgently move to higher ground after more cracks were found on the earth dyke.

GMC trucks were sent to transport residents out of the area because the soldiers were finding it very difficult to repair the cracks.

This morning, MR Sukhumbhand warned via his Twitter website that seven districts of Bangkok are at risk of flooding and people in the areas should move their belongings to higher places.

The districts are Lat Krabang, Nong Chok, Minburi, Klong Samwa, Kannayao, Sai Mai and Bangkhen.

MR Sukhumbhand said the floodwater was heading down to these areas through the broken dyke at Khlong Rapipat. The water level could be higher than the floodwalls built by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and may inundate the districts.

He stressed that this warning was not a signal for an immediate evacuation as the water level would rise slowly and local residents would have about 24 hours for preparations.

The governor said the BMA would provide information about flood risk areas every three hours.

On Vibhavadi-Rangsit road, the traffic was very congested as floodwater continued rising.

The water level was about 20 centimetres and only one lane was left for motorists due to heavy flooding. The traffic queue started at Simum Muang market in Pathum Thani province, reports said this afternoon.

The reports said the water level on Vibhavadi-Rangsit road heading to Thammasat University's Rangsit campus had increased to 50 centimetres.

The other side of the road was also flooded and the traffic was building up quickly from Zeer Rangsit shopping centre to Phahon Yothin road.

Future Park Rangsit shut its doors on Wednesady and will remain closed on Thursday because of the flooding on the roads in front of one of Bangkok's biggest shopping malls.

The department store's public relations announced this afternoon that the closure may be extended depending on the situation.

People who have parked their vehicles at the store's car park are asked not to take them off during the closure. The free parking offer for customers who are flood victims is valid until Oct 31.

Big C and HomePro stores, which adjoin the mall, were still open.

In the neighbouring province of Nonthaburi, the flooding has reached a critical level, with all districts now inundated.

Nonthaburi governor Wichian Phuttiwinyu said all six districts were now flooded. Bang Bua Thong and Pakkret districts were the worst hit.

A huge amount of floodwater from neighbouring Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani provinces has been flowing into Nonthaburi since yesterday.

The governor urged flood-hit residents wanting state assistance to contact officials on the 1131 hotline, which will receive their complaints around the clock.

Mr Wichian asked callers not to give false information to the hotline because hoax calls would only hamper efforts to help flood victims. He urged residents not to panic about the flooding.

I'd say mid-Nov at least. Central BKK is not really affected by this yet but it might in the next couple weeks but probably not really bad. It's bad in the northern area and surrounding outskirts but that shouldn't interfere with girl hunting. Actually it might even be a good time because the # of tourists is lower than normal.

Efforts will be made to divert as much water as possible to the eastern part of Bangkok and drain it into the sea, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Thursday.

Ms Yingluck said this during a meeting with water management experts including former Bangkok governor Bhichit Rattakul, Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Surasawadi, and Royal Irrigation Department chief Chalit Damrongsak.

The prime minister said all watergates should be opened and shut periodically as needed to regulate water flows in an easterly direction to drain water out through the various canals.

She said the floodwalls surrounding Bangkok would only help deter the flood torrent.

Floodwaters had not yet reached the Tha Chin River because it is on a higher ground. Therefore, it was necessary to quickly drain water out to the East, she said.

Ms Yingluck said Transport Minister Sukampol Suwannathat had been assigned to look after the floodwall along Khlong Hok Wa, which is the responsibility of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, to see if it should be further reinforced.

The overall flood prevention system of the BMA was under control, as well as the surge of floodwater into Khlong Prapa, which provides raw water for the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority.

The premier asked the people to cooperate so that water could flow easily along all canals, adding that it was impossible to protect all of Bangkok from the floods.

"We cannot block the water forever," Ms Yingluck said, adding that the government would choose which parts of the city to allow the water through to minimise the impact.

"The longer we block the water the higher it gets," she said. "We need areas that water can be drained through so the water can flow out to the sea."

Royal Irrigation official Chalit said all watergates on Khlong Rangsit canals 4-12 would be opened to allow the free flow of water down to low-lying areas.

Justice Minister and Flood Relief Operations Centre (Froc) director Pracha Promnok said about 90 per cent of Bangkok will not be flooded.

"I'm confident that 90 per cent of Bangkok will not be flooded but authorities will continue monitoring the remaining 10 per cent of the capital city.

"After overseeing the flood situation from helicopter this morning, the situation remains stable," Pol Gen Pracha said after visiting a temporary shelter in Don Mueang airport.

He said people living in the inner Bangkok should not be worried about the flood situation, and asked motorists not to illegally park their cars on elevated expressways.

The minister denied that the widespread flooding was like a fresh water tsunami, but expressed concern about how best to release the tremendous amount of water into the sea.

He said officials in Bangkok had started releasing water into three main canals at regular intervals since yesterday. The three canals are Phra Khanong, Prawase and Saen Saep.

The BMA had worked well with the flood centre. Bangkok authorities had started building a 26-kilometre flood wall, he said.

The government's flood centre chief lauded the army for its cooperation with the government and using its expertise to help mitigate flood problems.

"A contingency plan has been prepared but we cannot disclose the details yet because it could create chaos. We'll have to wait for the proper time," said Pol Gen Pracha, who insisted last week that the runoff from the North was under control and Bangkok would not be inundated.

He said the flood centre had explained the flood situation to residents in some areas who tried to stop officials from opening water gates.

Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said the BMA had piled up sandbags at Siriraj and Prannok piers along the Chao Phraya River to a height of 2.8 metres above mean sea level. Water pumps were also installed in those areas and teams of officials set up to monitor the water level around the clock.

On Wednesday night, Siriraj Hospital and Bangkok Noi district authorities jointly put up a floodwall of sandbags around the hospital with a height of 1.20 metres above the road surface to prevent flooding.

His Majesty the King is currently in Siriraj Hospital.

The BMA has been put on full alert for high sea tides adding to the flood crisis until the end of this month.

MR Sukhumbhand said all sluice gates in the capital have already been opened to help drain floodwater.

The sluice gate at Khlong 2 canal was opened by one metre to drain water from Pathum Thani's Nava Nakorn. At Thawee Wattana and Mahasawat canals, the sluice gates were opened by 80cm, the governor said.

I've been in central BKK since Wed morning. It was bright and sunny for the whole of Wed. It was less sunny today (Thurs) with only a light drizzle in the evening that lasted less than 2 hours. Other than that it's been pretty dry here.

Went to Soi Cowboy for the 2 nights I've been here and the weather looks so far so good here.

Hope the weather stays sunny and the floods will subside soon.

So far from monitoring the news and all the "confident" reports just a few days ago from the governor and all the way down to lower officials stating that all was well and BKK will not be affected with flooding like up north.
Now the confidence level is down to 90% ,so at this rate by next week the confidence level should be down to 50/50.:eek:

Admitting that the Pathum Thani flood situation was out of control, the Northern Rangsit Irrigation Office predicted yesterday that Bangkok would be inundated.

Office executive Chuchat Supawatthanangkul said the water flowing through Rapeepat Canal had destroyed several parts of the floodwall along Klong Luang district's Canals 1 to 5. Flowing at 70 cubic metres per second, this water would inundate Klong Luang and Thanyaburi districts, run through the Rangsit Prasertsak Canal and certainly flood Bangkok, he said.

Around noon yesterday, a 3metrelong section of floodwall along the Rangsit Canal at Chulalongkorn sluice gate near Rangsit market collapsed, but officials repaired it as residents were evacuated. As water levels rose, people guarded floodwalls while others strengthened them with sandbags.

At Pathum Thani correctional institution by Canal 5, 500 female inmates were evacuated, but 1,500 male prisoners remained because there was no place to hold them. They tried to pump out flood water seeping into the building, which is protected by a 3metrehigh floodwall.

Public Health Minister Witthaya Buranasiri said his ministry had dispatched officials by boat to help chronic patients, people with disabilities, pregnant women and ailing seniors trapped in flooded homes in Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani.

In Nonthaburi alone, there were 300 patients, but only 100 have been rescued so far. Hospitals have reserved beds to support another 200 chronically ill patients. Others from these groups should call 1669 around the clock for help.

Thammasat University Rangsit Campus executive Prinya Thaewanarumitkul, as director of the temporary shelter, said that even if flood waters there rose to 1.2 metres, brimming the sandbag barrier around the conference hall, the shelter would not be closed. The 1,800 evacuees on the ground floor would be moved to the gymnasium, which could support up to 5,000.

Floodhit Dream World Fun Park will be closed from today to October 31, while the Future Park Rangsit, Big C and HomePro malls in Thanyaburi district are closed indefinitely because of flooding of surrounding roads.

Singaporeans urged to delay travel to Bangkok: MFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Wednesday has advised Singaporeans to consider delaying travel to Thailand until the flood situation improves.

The Governor of Bangkok, Mr Sukhumbhand Paribatra, warned that Sai Mai and Don Muang districts in northern Bangkok might be hit by floods within the next 48 hours, if reinforcements to the dykes fail.

Given the unpredictable situation, the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok has been advising Singaporeans there to take 'all necessary precautions' should the situation worsen.

The Singapore Embassy will continue to keep in close touch with Singaporeans in Bangkok and will render all necessary consular assistance should the situation deteriorate, the MFA added.

Bangkok opens watergates

Runoff water from the upper part of the country has finally proved
"too huge" for the government to keep out of Bangkok.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday told the Bangkok
Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to use the capital's canals to
direct runoff water out to the sea.

"We have asked the BMA to open all watergates along the capital's
waterways. Then, we should be able to push between 8 million to 10
million more of cubic metres of water into the sea per day," she said.

Although, Yingluck tried to assure city residents that Bangkok's
canals would not overflow, she fell short of clearly explaining how
the government would control the water level and volume.

The PM held a meeting with Royal Irrigation Department directorgeneral
Chalit Damrongsak and Bhichit Rattakul, a former Bangkok governor, to
discuss the plan yesterday afternoon.

"We are trying to find out how to push as much water as possible into
the eastern part of Bangkok. There, we have already dredged seven
canals to facilitate the water flow into the sea," the prime minister
said.

She then just added that ridges and embankments would also be used to
prevent the overflow and to divert the water into Bangkok's eastern
part.

"This is the fastest way to push the water out into the sea," Yingluck said.

She told Bangkok residents in Sai Mai, Bang Khen, Klong Sam Wa, Nong
Chok, Min Buri, Lat Krabang and Khannayow districts to move their
belongings to spots at least one metre above the ground.

She said the water from Bangkok's canals would not overflow onto the
roads. "But if it does overflow, we will use pumps," she said.

Asked whether Bangkok could be considered safe from floods, Yingluck
said, "It's a surveillance area. It's not a risky area".

The military has pledged allout efforts to evacuate stranded residents
in heavily flooded Bang Bua Thong district in Nonthaburi, the
government Flood Relief Operations Centre announced.

Anyone calling for help can signal to barges passing their homes with
flashlights or lighted candles, or call 1131, said military officials,
present for the first time in uniform during a FROC press conference.

Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra said the BMA could release
1,600 cubic metres of water per second into the sea.

"We will do our best to assist the central government but we will take
into account impacts on local people, too," he said.

China Premier Wen Jiabao insisted yesterday to send a total of 170
heavy pumps to help Thailand fight the floods crisis.

He offered the assistance to Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt na Ranong
during his threeday trip to China until this weekend.

Wen said the first lot of 150 pumps with a capacity of 78 tonnes per
hour each will arrive by tomorrow afternoon and the remainder, with
greater capacity of 200 tonnes, will be delivered later.

Back in 26th Nov 2008 I was stranded in BKK and couldn't catch a flight back home due to the protesters blockade at Suvarnabhumi Airport. During then the China and Phillipines government swiftly activated chartered flights to send its affected citizens home. I though hosay liao can try calling Singapore Embassy in Bangkok for help. The reply was, "I'm sorry Sir the Singapore government has no such plans at this moment." Hahaha what a damn joke!

Calling the MFA Duty Office or Singapore Embassies in overseas for help is like asking Saddam or Gaddafi to surrender themselves! Probably the only scenario where they'll ship you back is in a black body bag via C-130. KNN! :mad:

The flood water has now arrived at Zeer shopping centre in Rangsit.

The express lanes are still dry but the parallel roads are now flooded. Small cars can proceed, but very slowly.

The shopping centre earlier decided to close and offered its entire parking areas free for vehicles until the end of the month.

Thai floods to last four to six weeks more: Govt

BANGKOK - Thailand’s worst floods in decades are expected to last another four to six weeks as a mass of water drains from the north into the sea, the government warned on Saturday.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra warned residents in Bangkok to move their belongings at least one metre (3.3 feet) off the ground this weekend to prepare for possible inundation.

The government has launched a risky bid to drain the floodwaters in the central plains out to sea through canals in the city, which has already seen waist-deep water in parts of its northern outskirts.

“Bangkok must open all floodgates to allow the water through,” Yingluck said in her televised weekly address to the nation.

“So during this long weekend residents should move belongings, cars and other valuable things to places at least one metre high.”

About 113,000 people have been forced to seek refuge in shelters, Yingluck said, adding that while the waters were receding in some areas of the country, the floods heading towards the capital were unstoppable.

The flood situation would continue for “four to six weeks", she added.

Government spokeswoman Titima Chaisang told AFP the premier was referring to the overall flood situation in the country and not specifically in Bangkok.

Three months of heavy monsoon rains have killed at least 356 people in Thailand and damaged the homes and livelihoods of nine million people since the crisis erupted, mostly in the north and centre, the government said.
