My friend got a letter from his hotel when he checked in yesterday. In it was stated that curfew will be until 28 May! :eek:

Today had anti-coup protesters at Victory Monument, Major Rachayothin and in Chiangmai. Shots were fired (most prob in the air) at Chiangmai and several people got arrested in both cities.

Thaksin's son was arrested at Chiangmai airport this afternoon. Army is hunting down red leaders in the provinces and 10 bombs went of together at Pattani! Rumor again Army looking to block social media coz now thai reporters using FB & Twitter to report the news!

My experience ( I was there during the first coup, and beginning of current protests last Dec.) is that independent gals may be more desperate and affectionate to get your attention, but won't lower prices. In Thermae last Dec., better looking girls were holding fast at 2000 ST, despite less customers - they don't want to undercut each other.

Establishments (Mps, Agogo's) are also unlikely to lower their set prices, since they still need to cover overhead and other employees.

The only real advantage is there is lesser competition among pooners, and less likely somebody will scoop the gal you want from you. On the downside, if you goto a place like Soi Cowboy more likely the girls will latch onto you and forcefully drag you inside :rolleyes:

This time its really very tense i was in lao for visa run when the curfew took place lucky got into bangkok right on time. Heard from the agent the border will be closed no 1 going in and out now. Not even tourist on the way back to bangkok while in the mini van encounter 4-5 roadblock. along ubon saraburi don maung airport and near asoke bts area and also saw police and army personnel questioning civilians along o nut bts at about 1030pm thou if u are tourist they will just smile and ask u to go back to wherever u stay..

Taxi drivers will also try to quote u high price after the curfew timing. So bros do take note

U can prob guess how he managed to get posted back...his backing must really like him.

Went to maiake yesterday and reached there by 10pm. Girls strength were probably 70% of normal but number of customers are like normal. Probably due to lesser tourists, supply was plenty at the various MPs along soi 24 and 26. Those freelancers who usually come from outside of bangkok for a short weekend stint were not around when i visited on sunday.

Traffic is horrendous from 8pm onwards, so suggestion is to visit early and da bao dinner back to your hotel.

Cabs have their radios on all the time and will be able to advise on which areas to avoid. Before 9pm cabs are still willing to go by meter. However, they might not want to drop you off your hotel if it is not on the way.

Hway Kwang police station is actually in Hway Kwang itself...near the Hway Kwang Fire station (turn left where the famous duck noodles etc is at hway kwang mkt and walk straight ahead). And nope....Hway Kwang district is under Hway Kwang police station not Bangsue nor Suttisan.

Big Apple and Maiyake were was open from 10pm to 5am the last few days.
Their modus operandi was if you stayed after 10pm they would "confine" you inside the club until 5am. Pimp tried but was raided on Friday and since been closed.

Take note that it might be difficult to find transport at 5am if your group is large.
Taxis will not go by meter. It would be ideal if you can book a private mini van.

For want of nothing to do I finally read up on my travel insurance policy T&C and was surprised to find that Martial Law is one of the exclusion clauses..... I called up my agent and she confirmed that my policy does not cover places where martial law is declared.

The person on the phone told me that I will be covered even if MFA issued an advisory against traveling to Thailand. However I should avoid protest sites and must not take part in any political activities in Thailand.

555 Bro Aries, I think you have to check with a Lawyer with expertise with international law and insurance law. Most insurance agents do not know their own products well enough.

I have the same plan as yours as well, but note the exclusions in the super long list of fine print in their website. Anything to do with "military" means NO CLAIM. E.g. be it injured in scuffle with civilian or military guys, or being hit by a bullet (civilian or military), etc. Martial Law is "military"

This is the reason why when HK SAR issues "black" warning to her residents, HKers numbers to Thailand dives because they know insurance does not cover anymore. Having said that, note also that Travel Advisory from Ministry of FA and Travel Insurance exclusion clauses and details are 2 different issues.

Basically, you can assume no coverage unless you can prove the your injury, etc. is NOT as a result, directly or indirectly, from Martial Law.

I could be wrong but based on my understanding, you make insurance claims by filing a proper report and making a statement of what actually transpired. it is up to the insurance companies to assess your claim and conduct further investigation to prove your claim and statement is not true and violate certain terms in the policies. nowhere in the world is an insurance company automatically assume an injury or loss is caused by a certain situation and require the insured to prove otherwise. if I slip and fall down in my hotel toilet, it is claimable. the insurance cannot and would not automatically assume that the soldiers raided your hotel room and push you causing the fall and require the insured to prove otherwise.

I have the same plan as yours as well, but note the exclusions in the super long list of fine print in their website. Anything to do with "military" means NO CLAIM. This is the reason why when HK SAR issues "black" warning to her residents, HKers numbers to Thailand dives because they know insurance does not cover anymore. I was at Bangkok last week when the Millitary coup and curfew announced. Nothing change much. You still see a lot of people walking at the street even after 10pm. Massage parlours and most of the shops all closing early at 9pm. Last night curfew timing change from 10pm to 12am. I spoke to a couple of lawyers both of whom specialises in litigation and does mainly insurance claims...... according to them the chances of you making a successful claim in this kind of scenario where martial law is imposed is very slim. Most insurance companies will repudiate or deny liability unless you can show that you have a very good and valid reason to travel to that country..... going there to party or tour is NOT a good or valid reason for you to assume the risks of travelling to that country.

Examples of valid reasons for the insurance companies to reconsider your claim is you are resident in that country or have a business there and your presence there is essential.

So in a nutshell.... those who are travelling to LOS at this moment are most likely not covered by travel insurance should anything happen to you even though you may have paid extra premiums for your travel insurance plans.

Just got back from Bangkok, everything is normal and I hardly see any soldiers. As for insurance coverage, I believe the current situation is still not serious enough for insurance to deny coverage. If that was the case, tour groups would have cancelled all their trips and if they do not, the government would have intervened.

I had asked about making a claim for my hotel booking, which was non refundable for the first night, and was told that the MFA travel advisory was to seriously reconsider travel to Thailand. This level of advisory does not allow for insurance claim to trip cancellation and related charges. They would only entertain claims for trip cancelation related loss if the MFA advisory is up another level to "advised against traveling to Thailand".

Anyway, for those with plans or booking to travel to Thailand, there is no worry so long as you use common sense and stay away from the demonstration areas. Always have your passport or a copy of your passport with you in case of checks. You will realize, when you are there, that the place is just as busy as normal and the only time you are reminded that the country is under military coup is when you have to end your night time activities before midnight. Even this curfew should be lifted soon. Enjoy yourself ! :p:D

I have been following the events in Thailand avidly and with great sadness. To me, the killing of another human being, anywhere, anytime, and for whatever reason, can NEVER be justified.

I have always postulated that government is just a necessary evil, but that there are degrees of evil.

I have also always opined that ANY form of government (or religion for that matter) each have its own noble ideals and merits. It is who actually leads such government / religion that makes ALL the difference.

We all see how different types of government can be great and also disastrous in another country / context. And even governments that WERE great, degenerating into a black morass as its relevance fades when the leader fails to keep up with the times.

One individual of resolve and intellect, guided by a pure heart and an unwavering belief of his ideals can and do prevail. But history has shown that for every Gandhi or Mandella there are multiple Pol Pots, Hitlers etc.

Worrying that I MAY be subject to “Kill Chicken to Scare Monkey 杀鸡儆猴”by being such a prolific poster there, I had then requested that all my posts be deleted - which they claim they were not able to do (Really?!) So as an alternative, we agreed that an acceptable face-saving compromise for them was for me to just force them to ban me. Which is of course what now appears under my old handle there.

Why do you want to go to a dirty beach? Bangsean not bangsen is a beach at chonburi district, is before si racha and one an a half hour bus ride from bangkok. Why not come to pattaya beach and soi 6 bars have a lot for you to see and play.

Bros who want the convenience of Thai ATM card but not has no work permit can do so at Bangkok Bank. Just need to do statutory declaration of your identity at your embassy. Bangkok Bank allows foreigner to open non-resident bank account with this document. ATM card also doubles up as BTS/Rabbit card. Do note that there is no internet/mobile banking services for non-resident bank account.

It has been donkey years since I had this account. If I dun remember wrongly, should be in Silom and I bought along my passport and THB... No resident cert... Just verbally told them where I stayed and they figured out the full address. Till now I dun even know what is my full address. :D

As mentioned, depends on branches... hopefully they have not tighten the rules.

As of Jan 2014, tourists are not allowed to open any bank accounts at all banks except Bangkok Bank, unless you have a valid work permit.

"I opened one in Nonthaburi 2 months ago and there was no insurance fee. I had went to SCB next door before hand and they said I couldn't open it on a tourist visa but they would confer with head office and contact me... I am still waiting. However, when I left SCB I went next door to K-Bank and the girl straight away said No Problem. 10 minutes later I have an account and an ATM card. I had to deposit 1000 Baht which I didn't mind as I had a lot more to deposit anyway. That was it though, no other fees. Keep trying."
