Think about it, it's better than you came back empty-handed than to be stuck in a relationship which you may face tons of problems trying to maintain, not to mention the monthly maintenance that you'll be remitting, plus the (more than) occasional additional fund requirements. Be glad that the ML friend did not deceive you and pretend to maintain a relationship with you.

Caveat: certainly there are exceptions and there are instances of real love. Three ML friends of mine are happily married to their ex-customers from Singapore and no longer in the scene.
