Re: HIV Scare..No Joke!
MrWaiGo, since your condom broke, there exists a possibility that you might have been exposed to the HIV virus. I urge you to go for an HIV test after the window period. Did you opt for PEP medication within 72hrs of your possible exposure?

Re: HIV Scare..No Joke!
It is always a bit of a balancing act when dishing out information on HIV risk. On the one hand you do not want to scare people unnecessarily, on the other hand, you do want people to know the risk. Also bear in mind that there is a difference between what is theoretically possible and what is statistically proven.
1. Breast Milk can spread HIV. It is a fact that breast milk contains HIV virus and can spread to newborn infants from a HIV +ve mother. Theoretically, if the HIV virus comes into contact with the buccal mucosa (inner lining of the mouth) in an adult, the virus can similarly infect the adult. However, I must add that in the known history of HIV, there has never been a proven reported case of HIV transmission via breast milk to an adult. 2. Cunnilingus can spread HIV It is also a fact that vaginal fluid contains HIV and when it comes into contact with the buccal mucosa, HIV transmission is possible. There was a case in the US reported in the 1990s of such a transmission but the person had extremely poor oral hygiene. There is a lot of argument among experts as to whether or not that particular report adequately excluded all other possible routes of transmission. |

Re: HIV Scare..No Joke!
HIV is transmitted through breast milk yes, but only to small infants and baby's, who have under developed immune systems.
It is NOT transmitted to adults in this manner. That, and the fact saliva contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect. No risk...no testing was needed. |
