I considered one a few years back. Couldn't find a way to hook it onto to my e bike. Then the missus burst my bubble bubble dream when she found out I was putting two of her precious inside it. You are lucky not to have your creativity constantly challenged by a other half.

fully agree, people focus too much on salaries. For the asset class, just yield alone will already be more than the middle income salary. Most working class people just do not see that it is possible for them to move to the asset class, or maybe not willing to put in the sacrifice. And so the gap widens...

Anyway, this is a pretty good read for anyone who wants to know which percentile they fall into by household income and such. There's even a section which shows how median household income per capita has changed over the past decade.

Since I'm lying in the hospital almost going to kong ka kaio, I have taken the time to analyse the data based on median household income, comparing 2004 with 2014.

Earning $6000 a month in 2014 (as in the case of TS) puts him slightly above the 40th percentile. There are many definitions of "low income" but I would consider the 40th percentile to be middle income (if we go by quartile, which I've chosen to). However, should someone who's household income is in the 40th percentile be thinking about owning a car in Singapore?

As for MoJoe, having a household income of $10+k 10 years ago would put you almost in the 90th percentile! Your family would be earning as much as or more than 88.3% of Singaporeans. That is categorised as high income if we continue to categorise income levels by quartile. However, in 2014, a family income of $10+k would only put you near the 70th percentile (68.1%). Does this explain why you feel that you are getting less for your money nowadays?

You should ask yourself why your wages have stagnated over time and think about what you can do to be back near the 90th percentile (earning $17500 to $19999 a month). I also think that you might be slightly disadvantaged because of your current family situation (low income per capita due to your parents living with you). While I applaud that you're doing your part as a filial son and taking care of your parents, you have to understand that it does put you in a slightly different position compared to other Singaporeans who don't have to contribute so much to their parents.

True, but I feel that the current CPF formulae and the rules that are currently put in place is fair. What happens if someone is allowed to withdraw 100% of his CPF funds and loses it in the stock market? Who is he going to cry mother cry father to? I'm very glad that Singapore is not a welfare state and I certainly hope that it stays that way.
