Read that changing SGD to VND is more flavourable in HCM itself rather than change in SG.

On the western side of Ben Thanh market, across the road, facing the central corridor of Ben Thanh market is this jewellery shop called Ha Tam.

Can any HCM residents verify this?

The exchange rate for VND currency in Singapore is not very good so you are advised to change SGD currency in Vietnam. Change a little bit of money at domestic terminal beside Tan Son Nhat international terminal in HCMC before you take taxi to district 1. Go to jewellery shop near Ben Thanh market and change more money to VND currency. The exchange rate there is very good.

Road on western side of Ben Thanh Market should be Phan Chu Trinh St. Phan Chu Trinh is met by Nguyen An Ninh. With your back facing Ben Thanh Market, there are 2 gold shops on the each corner of the T-Junction of Phan Chu Trinh st & Nguyen An Ninh st. I always use the one on the left. If you cant find it, dont worry, there are many many gold shops all over the market.

Alternativly, go to any of the viet pubs / ktv and ask the girl to change with you lah.

BTW rates fluctuate SGD$100 = VND 1.25mil

Dont you think it is a bit extreme to walk all the way to domestic terminal to change? If taking domestic flight, ok, understand. but if taking international flight? Can change in International terminal arrival hall. Unless you know something which we dont know.

saw SIA book one person ticket for $451, book 3 person ticket together for $1083 which means one person ticket for $361

i read up many lao jiaos here who wrote to change sgd50 first at airport to take taxi before going down to this market which has many gold shops or money exchanger to change curreny....

is it go down to this market, find any gold shops or money exchanger to exchange money will do?

somemore, go there book and pay hotel room, on the website its says use US currency, can change to vietnam dong anot?

Can advise, all lao jiaos?

Hahaha...i flew in and out so often until dun know what is vacation...do some biz also la...i flew back last nite...managed to buy sq at sgd 198. Arrive in 1 hr 30 mins fastest flight i ever flew from hcm.

The difference in timing is only 1 hr.. so if its 6pm in SG, its 5pm in HCM..

I also do this.. change SGD50 1st.. then go down to Ben Thanh market to change at the gold shop.. usual practice for me till now not much prob.. however, seeing you have a gf there.. you can ask her come to the airport to fetch you then you dun even have to change the SGD50 cos she sure will have some VND on her ma..

Most hotels will accept USD, SGD or VND (for Singaporeans' context).. But the exchange rate is damn bad.. MY practice is to change USD in singapore and pay the hotel in USD there.. for eg, if you stay at a hotel for 3days @ USD30 a day, go to parkway to change USD 90..

Just my VND200 of experience..

yup...change not more than that which will be enough to get you from airport to City centre. As for changing money, please read my previous posting.

You can choose to pay in vietnam dong but the conversion rate the hotel use will cause you loose out abit,

The Rate I changed at the Goldshop yesterday 05 July 2009 was SGD1.00=VND12,880.

As I explained sometime ago, unless you are changing quite big amount, maybe SGD1000, the difference to change in any place should not exceed VND100K.

Taking into consideration of the time taken, taxi fare, effort taken, is it really that worthwhile if you are not changing big amount?

Just my 2 cents worth...

When you check-in at the hotel, you will have to leave your passport at the Front Desk. Upon check-out, I usually use my credit card to pay in USD, with additional 3% transaction cost.

Next time I lend you VND100K before u fly la. I know someboby still got about VND7mil left after spending VND13 mil on his last trip. No need to change SGD50.

Dong is still better for spending except for hotel payments. There again, if the amount involved is not 4 figures, dont bother la.

personally i feel it is waste to money to fly SIA to HCMC. Try any budget airlines. Save the money for some other things to do in HCMC. It is a 1hr 45 min flight only.

you got a list of hotel from hurricane liao, so just call any to book/reserve the room. no need to book through internet and pay. pay when you check out. I pay by credit card for the rooms as I got no USD. I go out, I use dong.

ask her come fetch if she come by bike then how?
she may think got ATM coming liao, so never bring VND then how?
