Re: Vietnam - HCM

After reading OodN and Reaper postings this morning, I took a short 20 minute walk from my hotel at Ly Tu Trong St to this wanton mee stall that is located at Mac Thi Buoi. The stall is quite easy to find as it is only 5 minutes walk from Sheraton Hotel. Upon arriving, I noticed that this is indeed a stall with no air-cond, and it has 2 tables inside and 1 table outside. I reckon that it can only accomodate a maximum of 14 customers.

I sat down and ordered a bowl of dry wanton mee. The portion is quite small but noodles are very Q. The wan ton is also very small but soup is delicious. Total I spent 28,000 VND for the bowl of noodle and 1 bottle of coke.
Indeed this is the first time I had wan ton mee in HCMC and I'm not disappointed, thanks to OodN and Reaper.

Then I took a short walk to Parkson along Dong Khoi St for my daily dose of Highland Coffee.

Hmm...indeed a very good start to my day....

For those who like to eat ice-creams.
There's another alernative to the people who scared of fat.

Yoghurt.
I find it very nice and enjoyable amphience at this place and taste good.
You just take whatever amount of yoghurt from the machine, and add whatever toppings and sauce you want (buffet style liked).
It is count by weight. Its cheap and u can have large amount too.
Good for couple to 'pak tor'.
The shop name is call yoghurt space. Its big and u cant miss it.

Re: Vietnam - HCM

Last night I tried the Tan Hai Van Restaurant at 162 Nguyen Trai St, which was also inside Bro Hurricane88's list of restaurants. I have passed by this restaurant along the busy Nguyen Trai St several times, and was able to squeeze some time for dinner with 2 lady friends.

From the outside, the restaurant looked like a typical Cantonese restaurant. Once inside, the restaurant was clean but air-cond was a tad too cold for us. Old Chinese songs by Wang Jie and Sally Yeh in the background made me feel entirely at home.

The menu was very extensive, but there were no pictures and nothing to say what was the restaurant speciality. We ordered YangZhou fried rice, deep-fried popiah with shrimp and squid, a plate of fried crispy prawns and a plate of garlic and onion beef. The food tastes exactly like what I would expect in a Singapore restaurant. My favourite was the YangZhou fried rice which was especially fragrant with tiny, delicious pieces of sausage. I had most of the fried prawns as my 2 other friends were on diet. My only complaint was that the garlic and onion beef were cut too big and not tender enough. Also, my favourite shang hai xiao long bao was not available at that time. The total bill come up to 421,000 VND.

I forgot to check whether they serve wan ton noodles. Sorry about that.

So for brothers looking for good Chinese food that tastes delicious to a typical Singaporean, I would recommend this Tan Hai Van Restaurant.

Hi bros,

This last few posts has suddenly become "where to eat Wan Tan Mee in HCM" thread. But it is good to know that all bros out there are happy to share their exp. This is what SBF is supposed to be for. I mentioned it as a by the way thing. I am an absolute newbie in HCM.

I would really like to meet up some bros in HCMC the next time I am in town, hopefully soon, for a drink or a meal.

There is also one yogurt shop, same concept conveniently located opposite ben thanh market, near the Pho 2000 rest.

Tan Hai Van rest. also has Wanton noodles in their menu.
Tried it twice before. I could say that the standard is comparable with the ones we had in Sin. However, the green chillies they used was not the same soury ones we got here.
