I never think in terms of we can have only A or B. I ask why can't we have A & B as well? Also, perhaps the people I talked to are seasoned netizens with a penchant for promoting Thailand and the Thai culture. Some of them are not even Thais but what they know might even embarass some apathetic thais. U probably know by now Internet geeks tend to share more and are also more open. Lastly I am not saying that being able to speak read and write Thai will make that same person I am talking to, open up to me more and therefore tell me more, cos he wouldn't. I am saying that when this guy can't, I now have available to me a larger pool of thai friends and documented resources the world over who will tell me what I needed to know. Plus when I meet established foreigners (from Japanese to Belgiums) living inside/outside LOS sharing the same idea, I feel that I am not on a path all alone my own and I certainly hope more bros here can join us on this exciting journey.

It is good to give their 'home cook' thai foods a try. I initially also don't like it but later after a few trys.. i began to 'love' it. You want to live like them, talk like them and be one of them. First you must 'EAT' like them. Think of Brunei jungle training days if you have to. haha !! I don't like chili at all when i first came to thailand back in 90'. Now chili is a 'must have' for my every meals here. One very bad habit of thai ppls is that their money management is very bad. They don't believe in saving for raining days except those thai chinese. On the good side, they are a bunch of hardworking ppls. Try to make use of their good way to your own advantage. Create jobs for them is better than to give money freely. Sometimes, it betters to have some sort of 'bank loans' like housing/car loans to tie them down financially. This will indirectly force them to work harder and your 'position' in the family has suddenly become 'indispensable'. If you know what i mean. |
