Re: Bangkok Field Report
I think there's more than meets the eye. For the mgt to name the event 'Goodbye Santika' would seem quite inauspicious for a NY eve countdown party. I find it so coincidental that goodbye really materialized for real?
Reports say it's pyrotechnic that set the place ablaze, but I don't buy that. Pyrotechnics aren't explosives, and I doubt they'd be suficient to ignite & cause immediate combustion, unless there was already octane in the air. Alcoholic beverage too don't combust immediately. Could it be sabortage? Rivals going out that to destroy the reputation? |

Nightclub operating under a food-shop cover - At least I can confirm they did sell food there.
Brothel operating under a massage parlour cover - Well, Poseidon does provide legitimate massage services if you want it. PM under cook cover - I have seen him cooking on TV before.. Man under woman cover - I only realised it in the morning. Everything's grey in Thailand, there's never a black and white. Welcome to the Land of Smiles. |

Thailand's pubs and clubs are mostly death traps as they usually allow as many people in as possible to maximise profits. I usually avoid places that's too crowded. Reasons being less enjoyable and safety issue. R.I.P. to those poor souls.

In time to come the same old accidents will be deja vu again. Just like military coups. Avoid over crowded places, katoeys on the street trying to fondle your dick, puyings that like to lie (quite hard to avoid). You should be rather safe to enjoy Thailand and come back in one piece. Fake smiles are highly recommended. Adopt a mai pen rai attitude. You'll get the hang of it and love this country! Enjoy Thailand for what it is because Thailand never changes.

Re: Bangkok Field Report
Something interesting..... click on the pic to view large pic.
Many teenagers turned up at the charred remain of Santika Pub at 2 am Sunday to take photos of the building. They said they heard ghosts would show up at the scene of their death three days later. A man, Natthawut Urapen, 29, showed his mobile phone to reporters, saying he had taken what appeared to be two ghosts. The man said he took the picture at 10 pm Saturday and became frightened to see two spots in the picture which looked like ghosts. He said a spot appeared like a man at window and the other like a woman standing on the roof.

Re: Bangkok Field Report
Best part is that many were saying Santika is THE place to go before this disaster took place. Not a place to be missed, happening place, etc, etc. Looks like all those recommendations were given without a thought of any other consequences.
Now I'm wondering whether other popular night spots are really safe or not. Come to think of it, if there was a similar fire that spread so fast in RCA, Hollywood or even NEP, what will the casualty rate be like? I think fellow bros when going to a night spot should familiarized themselves with the location. Check out the various exits, etc just in case of emergency. Not only fire. We may also want to move out or leave the place in cases of fights, etc, etc. Regards Tiger |

Re: Bangkok Field Report
come to think of it, many disco in bkk are usually very packed,
and i think only have 1 entrance/exit. their back door are usually locked death shut by the owner to prevent theft of alcohol. however, noted that places like RCA, the Bed, or Scratch Dog do not have fireworks or any performances that uses flammable materials, so more or less should be safe. I however feel that if Scratch Dog really got fire, its quite scary as their entrance is quite narrow. |
