What i understand from sin MC is the rates here is only slightly better then Bkk MC, but if u changing like big amount example sin 30k and above, u have no choice to change in Bkk, reason is Singapore custom only allow u to bring sin 30k per trip out from Singapore.

If u bring sin 30k x 1k note traveling, it will be much more easier to pass custom then carry ฿750,000 out from sin. Agree?

Guys, there are 3 main ways for your THB fix:

1) Outward remittance (from Sg). You BUY thb from either banks or remittance shops (GM or Western Union).

There's a cost to handling cash -so banks thb SELLING rate maybe marginally better than cash (which explains 24.86 transfer from Bkk Bank Sg to THI). BUT there's also remitting bank charges to ADD on, variable rate on face amount. Then, if your receiving bank is ABC (not same Bkk Bank) -kena possible receiving bank charges, never mind few working inter banking delays.

Remittance shops in GM charge a flat rate (next 24 working day) whilst WU's charges are higher for immediate credit.

2) Cash (MC). What you see here in this thread. There's a cost to handling cash (vs banks SELLING TT rate abovementoned).

3) ATMs in THI. From your VISA or SG bank account. From VISA, kena prohibitive cash advance rate. From SG bank account, got bank charges (except for Citibank). But either way, exchange rate SUCKS. This is a money spinner or income stream for banks.

4th way, pass to a trusted friend

Max. per person in cash into thailand is only 20k USD in any currency, that is if i don't remember wrongly.

Just get your money changed at siamexchange, google for the rates. It's pretty near MBK where most singaporeans spend their time buying over-priced stuff.

It is almost the same.... if u change a bit, dun have to look around the whole BKK for the best rates.

Assuming the rates different between the best and the average is 0.2.

If you change 1000SGD, the different is 200THB. Your effort, time and transportation to the particular location is more than 200THB. Unless you are somewhere near it, then change from there.
