Bro, I think everyone is afraid of things that we dun know about/or understand.

If I may use an analogy, its the same feeling as the thought of taking a night walk in the slums of Cape Town, you have heard horror stories and thus can never be sure its safe.

Ur parents probably have heard horror tales about thai gals, saw the working ladies in geylang and thus developed a general impression of them.

I will suggest that you take the initiative to provide your parents with more information about your wonderful gf and experiences with Thai culture & society. Hopefully they can gain knowledge, become comfortable and ultimately accept your Thai life-partner.

Some ideas you may wish to try :

1. Let ur parents know how you guys met and fell in luv.

2. Organize a double meet-the-parents session in bkk or sg so that both families can interact and understand each other better. This could be done by you, as a filial child, sponsoring a free holiday for your parents. (Kill 2 birds with 1 stone)

3. Download some video documentary on the rich Thai cultural heritage & social values and screen them during evening dinner time.

Perhaps during certain conversation with parents, you can ask them about views regarding marrying a foreigner (not pertaining to thai). From there, you can hear their views and see the degree of negativity towards marrying non locals. (Of course, you know better when to talk such topics, not when they are busy with work, cooking or prime time tv programmes where their attention and interest is not there)

Alternatively, you can get to know your Thai gal better and share her virtues with your parents. Not to market her but to tell her that you have a friend who is ...perhaps hardworking, generous, compassionate...etc etc.

I believe, so long you both truly love each other you will go far and be together in the end. It may be tough initially but eventually your parents will still respect your decision as you are the one to marry her not them.

I think it really takes a lot of time and effort to be able to convince your parents about your decision. Most importantly is to plan together with your gf and work things out together. Have a plan or something..

Bro, if you are already 25, then I think you should be man enough to stand up for your own rights, and that includes choosing your own bride.

For the first meeting, bring her to meet up with your parents for makan in a public place if meeting at home makes your gf nervous. Bring them out more often, say, for concerts or just jalan jalan. The idea is to let your parents get to know your gf, and if she puts up a good show, all will be OK.

If your parents still reject, then you have to let them know nicely that its your life, and this is a decision for you to make, not theirs. I know that for many pansy Singaporeans who are attached to their parent's apron strings, this is tough to do, but you have to remember that you live your life for yourself, not for anyone else.

That doesn't mean you become a selfish axxhole, but there are times when you have to stand up for what you believe is right. Choice of life-partner is one of those times.
