Its the delta variant, which is highly infectious, even to vaccinated
That's why we need to still wear mask for now, still a lot of unlinked cases. I expect mask wearing in public to extend into 2022, as a 'new normal', we will have to go back to Phase 2 Circuit Breaker a few more times if mass outbreak happens again.
We're running out of options - with Delta the 'zero COVID' 'herd immunity' theories are out the window now - its basically going to always be around, like chicken pox, and like chicken pox, vaccination reduces its severity - yes, you can die from severe chicken pox.

Delta is basically screwing the entire planet now, but its proven that vaccination helps limit its effects - MoH report shows vaccinated ppl have much lower case numbers for serious care, and so far zero deaths. If you are not vaccinated and get COVID, you have a 8 in 100 chance of ending up requiring oxygen treatment, and a 1 in 200 chance of dying.

And don't forget there are long-term effects - even a super fit guy like Lewis Hamilton, who had a mild case, can still feel it after 6 months.
Expect to have a yearly booster shot for the next few years.
