IMHO, school / degree / diploma is overrated. All it does is numb your senses and stifle your creativity.

but hor with Singapore's context nowadays you really think can survive without a cert? Unless the whole education system changes it will be rare that such a thing is gonna happen. More and more people are sending their kids overseas or even to international schools locally to "climb:" out of the box. Untill someone UP there realises the whole social edcucation structure is gonna remain as it is

Lol. Everyone's sending their kids everywhere and leaving their money elsewhere, it's not just a national issue I think. I don't think anyone up there will ever change things.

There are so many graduates nowadays that sometimes there is a big mismatch between job scope and qualification, seen it myself. Being a graduate no longer stand out, must be from a prestigious institution or professional course else it is likely to be overlooked.

With the widening rich-poor gap, best bet is to hang around your well heeled friend, worm your way to a cushy post. Forget about simi degree/qualification. At the end, all office boys/girls.

networking definitely plays a part. even than again unless the midset of the typical SG boss changes all these will not change. In layman terms....... that toilet paper still needs you to go in entry level and equips you with the right skills to cope in whatever industry you are in. Soft skills o the individual plays a very large factor too. The irony of this gen Y gen Z generation is the fear of taking risks and fear of doing it wrong.
There is nothing wrong in failing or doing wrong you just gotta pick yourself up and move on. It works both ways

penalised is one thing but its how you handle it the after effect the reviewing of work status etc etc
