State of Emergency In Bangkok

I am in bangkok now and everything seems normal. The only difference is that for the next couple of nights there is a curfew in effect at 10PM. I will be able to report on the night life this weekend. I think by the weekend everything will be back to normal.

I jus went to change some thai bht currency for my impending holiday to bkk next week. KNN, thai bht still strong lei and not realli drop. In fact its the kiasu sing $ that fell more in tandem with thai bht. This makes buying the thai bht even more expensive (for us silly-poreans ) than a week ago.

Lucky i onli change few hundred dollah!!! me so poor lei. hehe

let's say 23.76 and drop to 23.00

and its a difference of .76baht per dollar

lets say change $1000 and its only a difference of 760 baht. 760baht not even enough for 1 night at Palazzo.

Unless we are talking about changing 100-millions of dollars, then thats a different kind of speculation we talking about.

760B also can go for 1 session of oil massage. keke..

I would consider buying some thai B if the exchange rate is $1 to 25B or 26B.

ahya all this talk abt win or lose a few dollah over currency exchange is all meaningless one la. It is just a "feel-good" factor to us kiasu sillyporeans to feel we gotten the upper hand over either buying something and to kid ourselves to think that we have beaten the system. It's the same mentality we apply when we haggle over 10-20 bhts discount with street vendors in chatuchak or MBK etc!! Its not really bec of the money unless like wat bro SC pointed out, we had changed currency in several thousand sing $$$.

Even the 760 bht is maybi jus enough to cover tips for one fling at Poseidon MP, after buying drinks and give drink lady and attendants tips, captain tips and MP girl. What if go pegasus and such places? die la tips to captain jorghi oso not enuf ah!! hahaha.

Anyway concerning the coup in bkk, IMHO it will remain peaceful and things will slowly return to normal as the locals and even govt officials noe that everyday folks gotta survive!! It seems most thais oso quite sick of TST's kelonging all these years + his crony-ism so it perhaps time he is ousted. Maybi just need the Thai king to come out to talk and calm situation.

I dun think TST dare to come back to BKK liao. anyway he super rich got plane and apartments all over the world so he's set for life liao. Probably if he out of job, can apply to be CEO for our sg local sleague. They will surely appreciate his expertise on how to deploy kelong tactics in local soccer scene. hahahaha

2240 hrs: Prime Minister Thaksin has declared a state of emergency, ordered troops restricted to barracks.

2238 hrs: It's a coup as the military appeared to be in control although Channel 9 aired Thaksin's state of emergency announcement, ordering removal of Army Chief Sonthi.

Why the state of emergency?

I think this is the only way to stop all the trouble in the south once and for all. They are so anti-Thaksin and he wont step down. Had a general election and he won by a landslide victory.

There is so much untold factors in it, that are behind the scenes. They thai people and tourists are in no danger. The military are to protect the Royal Family only. My mate is one of the high up officers overseeing this.

New pm to be a civilian in two weeks. Then normal order to be restored. No violence, bloodshed at all.

Pls see this post in the Bangkok Post. No need to cancel your trip.
