netiquette also involves personal responsibility for what you post. if someone wants to post, he should make sure that others benefit from the post without causing undue stress due to lack of or questionable information. if he is slipshod in his posts, he can jolly well expect to be flamed. how would you like, for example, that someone posts something like gal A at L12H13 is solid when there's no L12H13 at all? there is no such thing as an honest mistake when you are aiming to 'inform' someone through your posts.

so question is... do you want to be the police, or should i?

I agree with your stand on people posting false information or doing marketing here in the forum. However, some of the postings which you term nonsensical is just done by innocent low IQ people or lousy command of English. Instead of slamming them for their defect, we should instead try to understand their plight and if possible help them along. It's no big deal for us to post FRs in english since we're comfortable using it but there are others out there who still try to do so even though they know their english "Can't Make it". For that, I respect their ballz and enthusiasm.

True, flaming is a way of educating newbies. But some of the "humorous" flames you post teach the below average joe nothing because at the end of the day, they don't truly understand the message that you're conveying.

Instead, try a bit of adaptive posting like what I do. Sometimes it's low brow, sometimes it's with that stiff upper lip. Flexibility is key. But then again, that's your prerogative.

Remember, netiquette works both ways.

advice noted. however, my english is not so high brow leh. i daresay that more than half the ppl here have better english than me. but regarding the IQ part, definitely alot to be desired from the group here. that's why half the time i'm flaming.

There's more to good english than just the ability to use "cheem" words. That's just the vocab part. Don't forget that there's grammar. Then, there's also storytelling, where people actually enjoy and immerse themselves in what the poster has to say. Another is humour both in its overt and subtle form. And last but not least, word play.

All those people we think are "good in english" are just people who has the above qualities in various amounts.
