It rained heavily suddenly and that feeling of unease was in Daniel's heart. The glass on his table suddenly shattered on its own and gave the both of them a fright.
This is not a good omen. There were goosebumps on his skin. He took out his phone and then looked at them. 7 missed calls. And he read the messages. He dialed the voice message. A total of 7 of them. Voice Message 01: I know saying sorry would not be enough dear. It was me who hurt you so bad. Sniff... I know I should not have walked out on you for Nick. I thought he would change... (End of message) Voice Message 02: He treated me like a toy... beating me as he wants and tries to use me as a 'present' so he can get business deals but I refused. So he beat me repeatedly again. Then he drugged me... (End of message) Voice Message 03: Sniffs....sobs... I was raped....by his client.... I couldn't do anything... when I woke up I was naked. I ran and booked the earliest flight I could and tried to leave him... and there was no news from him at all... (End of Message) Voice Message 04: I thought I could start things over with you Dan... sobs...sobs... (End of Message) Voice Message 05 (hysterical): Arghhhhh!!! Why!! Why does this happen to me? What have I done wrong?.... (End of Message) Voice Message 06 (hysterical): Dan...I'm pregnant with that bastard's client child. I will haunt the both of them even when I'm dead! (Cuts the phone) Voice Message 07 (calm): Dan, by the time you heard this message, I would have left this world. You mean the world to me. We ain't destined to be together this lifetime. (sounds echoey) My nightmare would end already today. Thank you for the past 12 years, I... I....love..you... THUDDD! (Line got cut off) Daniel shook his head while listening. *No... you got to be kidding me...you GOT to be kidding me... No....* He dialed her phone... *The number you dialed cannot be reached. Please check the number and dial again.* *The number you dialed cannot be reached. Please check the number and dial again.* *The number you dialed cannot be reached. Please check the number and dial again.* *Don't do this to me Beth... I lost you once... Not again.* This time he was panicking. He could not keep his composure anymore. He told Evans. Daniel: Evans, I got to go. Something critical has happened. Here's the money for the dinner. Evans: Do you need me to accompany you? Daniel: No its fine... He ran towards his car and drove off... He didn't know where he was going when his phone rang. It was Jason, one of his buddies who was a regular with the police force. Daniel: Hello? Jason: This is bad Dan... come over here right away. Jason told him the location and he sped over. The place was surrounded by the police and at the distance was a pool of blood and was covered with a cloth. Jason: You are here. Please don't go near. It's not a good sight. It's Beth. Daniel knelt down. And Jason patted him on his shoulders. Jason: I'm sorry Daniel. I'm sorry that it had to come to this. Daniel had never cried this much. Daniel: Jason.......she came back... she escaped from Nick... and all she wanted was my love and I kept rejecting her... I didn't know she went through so much Jason... Jason: It isn't your fault Daniel. Daniel let him listen to the voice messages that Beth left for him. Jason stood there, stunned by what he heard too. Jason: I'm sorry Daniel. I really am. Amidst the crowd someone came towards Daniel and tapped on him. "Are you alright?" Daniel threw a punch: Go away! She fell to the ground and Daniel turned. The person whom he punched was Bernice. And she was covering her face. The area where Beth committed suicide was near her area. She was just happening to walk home from her dinner alone when she spotted him at the distance. *Sobs sobs* Without saying anything, Daniel hugged Bernice: She's gone Bernice... She's really gone... And he buried himself on her chest and cried. This was the first time Bernice seen him so vulnerable and she, too wept for she knew she wasn't the one he loved most. The ambulance and police car left. The crowd disappeared. And the two of them just sat there. Daniel stared blankly at the bloodied spot. He walked towards the place and then stepped on the ring that he had once bought for her, telling her that it was the one thing that marks the token of their love. He picked it up and placed it in his pockets. He turned towards Bernice. Daniel: Can you stay with me Bernice? Please? I don't want to be alone. She nodded without hesitating. Bernice: Let me pack some clothes ok? Follow me home first can you? She was afraid if she had left him to go home first he would do something silly. He followed her and then they went home. Throughout the entire journey Daniel had not uttered a single word. Bernice too kept silent. For she knew it was best for him to have some quiet moments. He showered and came out. He went to his room and took out a dress. Daniel: Can you wear this please? She nodded. She didn't like the feeling but she knew it would make him better. Now in her heart she knew already that she was only a replacement to her. He did not really love her. But she loved him too much and she doesn't mind it. She changed into Beth's clothes. Daniel saw her and his expression changed totally. Daniel: Beth? You are here. Come sit beside me. Bernice sat down obediently as Dan switched off the lights. He kissed her with such sensitivity and love that she had never experienced from him and he said. Daniel: I love you Beth. Bernice's hands clenched his bedsheet as he continued to suck her nipples.
