Just very curious regarding HIV transmission

Recently i went for Fish Spa and this thought strike me suddenly..

Can Doctor Fish transmit HIV ?

Reason why i asked is because i suffered a small cut earlier on, when going through the fish therapy, the wound opens up and blood was oozing out. What are the possibilities? I did my search on the net, but couldn't find any articles relating to doctor fish spreading such diseases. Share your thoughts and views!

For STD infections, it's transmitted through Blood and Open Wound. Hence, technically, it might be possible that transmission may take place if any blood present is not digested by the fishes before it reaches your wound.

ABSTRACT

The potential for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) to enter domestic sewers via contaminated body fluids such as blood has spurred interest in the survival of this virus in water and wastewater. This study focused on establishing the inactivation of HIV and productively infected lymphocytes in dechlorinated tap water. In addition, HIV survival was compared with that of poliovirus. Results indicated that either free HIV or cell-associated HIV was rapidly inactivated, with a 90% loss of infectivity within 1 to 2 h at 25 degrees C and a 99.9% loss by 8 h. In comparison, poliovirus showed no loss of infectivity over 24 h. The presence of human serum in tap water slowed the rate of HIV inactivation through 8 h but did not stabilize the virus through 24 h.



Personally I think its still Dangerous, there is still a very rare chance of infection considering that the virus can survive in water for up to 8 hours.

That's what worries me.. Hence bros with wound on the leg, please do not go for fish spa.. In my case, i had a minor cut 2days back, the wound is almost healed, but the fishes tore open my wound. Until i felt a sharp pain on my leg, blood is already oozing out.

Oh ya, side track abit, the fish therapy quite shiok ah!
