Malaysians stage 2nd protest at Merlion Park: 21 arrested May 11th, 2013 | Author: Editorial Despite 9 Malaysian FTs being warned by the Police for actively participating in an illegal protest staged at Merlion Park in Marina Bay on Wed night (8 May) (‘100 M’sian FTs stage illegal protest at Merlion Park‘), another group of Malaysians staged a second protest at the same venue this afternoon (11 May), defying the warnings from Singapore Police. First protest by Malaysians staged at Merlion Park on 8 May (ST Photo). 21 of them were duly arrested by the Police today. Police said those who break the law will be seriously dealt with. They will face action, which might include termination of their visa or work pass. The Malaysians were protesting against alleged fraud in the recent Malaysian general election held on 5 May 2013. Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim in Malaysia had called for protests against the alleged fraud. A police statement issued this evening said foreigners must abide by Singapore laws, and should not import their domestic issues from their respective countries into Singapore. Police also earlier remind the public that conducting an outdoor protest without a police permit is illegal in Singapore. While foreigners, including Malaysians, are allowed to work and live in Singapore, they have to abide by Singapore laws. .
