Nine cases of thieves slitting bags on Orchard Road

The New Paper

Friday, Jan 03, 2014

The police said they received nine reports of theft involving the slitting of bags on Orchard Road on Christmas Eve.

The cases occurred between 7pm on Dec 24 and 2.30am on Dec 25.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the police said that all the nine cases occurred when the victims were walking in crowded areas.

The culprits are believed to have used a sharp object to slit open the bags and remove valuables, said the police.

A police spokesman said that no arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing, adding that bag slitting is a common method used by thieves, reported The Straits Times Online.

The police said people should remain vigilant during the holiday season.
