The Government has appointed two senior officers to be Second Permanent Secretary to support the priorities of their ministries and drive major initiatives.

MG(NS) Ng Chee Khern, who is Permanent Secretary (Defence Development), Ministry of Defence, will be concurrently appointed as Second Permanent Secretary for Health. He was the Chief of the Republic of Singapore Air Force from 2006 to 2009.

Mr Albert Chua, Deputy Secretary (Asia-Pacific and International Organisations), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be appointed as Second Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

Mr Chua, 46, joined the Foreign Service Branch of the Administrative Service in 1992. He served in various appointments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs efore his appointment as Principal Private Secretary to then Prime Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong (subsequently Senior Minister) from 2004 to 2007.

Mr Chua served as High Commissioner to Australia in 2008 and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York in 2011. He has been Deputy Secretary (Asia-Pacific and International Organisations), MFA since 2013.

The appointments will take effect from August 1, said a government statement released today.
