NationHome > News > Nation Published: Saturday February 14, 2015 MYT 12:00:00 AM Updated: Saturday February 14, 2015 MYT 7:52:15 AM Mydin to sell goods 30% cheaper in line with Putrajaya’s appeal BY TASHNY SUKUMARAN PETALING JAYA: Mydin hypermarket will be slashing the prices of 50 items by up to 30%, in line with Putrajaya’s appeal to traders to lower prices. In a move that could set others following the same path, Mydin Mohamed Holdings managing director Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin hoped the reduction would help contribute to stable socio-economic development. “We are just doing our part here at Mydin and I hope the consumers are happy,” he said. He said the reduced prices were seen by many to be a boon as the Chinese New Year celebrations were coming up, a time when prices of goods usually rose. “Many have still not reduced their prices. As we are in a competitive environment, if I am the first to make the change, others will be forced to follow Mydin’s example and reduce prices,” he said. Ameer called on other traders to jointly support the Government and reduce prices.. Mydin’s management said it would be reducing prices as quickly as possible but asked the public to understand that the process of adjusting prices could not be done immediately and simultaneously at all its 41 outlets. The 50 items now cheaper at Mydin hypermarkets, emporiums and bazaars include black pomfret, red chili, Milo, a selection of vegetables including long beans, cucumber and kangkung and evaporated creamer. Chicken thigh is now priced at RM6.89 per kg while squid is RM13.99 per kg. Yellowtail scad (ikan selar) is RM10.99 per kg, several Dutch Lady brand milk formulae are priced at RM24.49, and spinach at 69 sen a bundle. The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry recently urged all traders, retailers, wholesalers and suppliers to bring down their prices in line with the decline of oil prices from Feb 1. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak also called on traders to slash prices and be fair to consumers. For a full list of items, consumers can refer to the list on the Mydin website at http://www.mydin.com.my. Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
