Google's self-driving car's perfect record was good while it lasted!

Since they hit the road, the self-driving vehicles – which Google touts as being much safer than a human-operated vehicle – have been in accidents (17 to be exact), but they've always been at the fault of the other driver, or in some cases, automatic mode wasn't in use.

But on February 14, a Google car was in an accident which involved the vehicle swerving into another lane, hoping to avoid a stack of sand bags blocking its way. While in the process of moving into the left lane, the car hit a bus coming from behind.

The test driver, Google said, thought the bus would slow down or come to a stop, allowing the Google car to merge, which it didn't.

Luckily, there were no injuries that resulted from the incident.

Today, Google released part of its self-driving car report for the month of February, where they admitted that although the such a crash is something that happens "every day" while driving, the tech giant "clearly bears some responsibility."

"This is a classic example of the negotiation that’s a normal part of driving," the statement reads. "We’re all trying to predict each other’s movements."
