KNN news coverage comes from many sources, not just the Star, but also includes amongst others, the NST, Metro and even the Bangkok Post

Bro going there must be extra alert...no place is safe in JB. Car also can be stolen in their police premises leh..

Theres once i was having my Macdonalds at holiday plaza with 1 friend..Then suddenly theres this chinese guy sit next table to us looking at us suspiciously(he does not have any food or drink). We immediately take our burgers and leave. Better be safe then sorry.

Oh ya another place bros have to beware and be extra extra alert..is the money changer near the custom. My cousin got robbed there. Immediately after my cousin change the money a guy snatch the money away and hopped to a bike waiting for him by the road. Careful at the surrounding there..dont count the money while u walking away..stay at the counter to count.

I personally got robbed at the $ changer near the yong tau foo store directly after jb custom. Was with my gf and happily changing RM at 7pm on a sat evening. I tot that place was quite crowded, so did not keep my RM immediately, instead I counted the notes openly in the public. Before I start to walk off, a chinese guy use his tatooed arm to stop me from leaving and demanded RM50 to take taxi back home as he lost his wallet. I can see behind him is a pillar and 1 guy is waiting. I was with my gf and really freeze at that moment as I am afraid he would snatch my wallet the moment I take out my wallet. Had around RM400 in it with my IC and jezz...

I think my gf sense what I was going to do...36 strategies..the best strategy is to RUNNNNNN....Before he reached for his pocket, ermmz..i do not know what he was trying to dig, I held my gf hand and dash to the main road where there are malaysian police directing the traffic...

Think God was on my side that day, I managed to escaped unhurt and did not loose any $..Just to be on safe side, try Not to change RM in jb... We can change at old woodlands center where rates is better than compared to jb. U can even count openly in woodlands..just make sure they dun trail you from woodland and rob you when u step into jb.

I guess we got to be in defensive mode when abroad. Not just in Malaysia..

I fully agree with you that one should be always on the alert when handling money. So many had been robbed due to them exposing money in the public.

BTW, if you had not lost any money, how did you considered having been robbed??

Report from The New Straits Times dated Friday 7 September 2007 :-

Jewellery shop in JB robbed

JOHOR BAHRU : In less than a minute, 3 robbers grabbed 2 trays of jewellery worth RM 300,000 from a goldsmith's shop at Holiday Plaza here.

In the 8.50 pm robbery on Wednesday (5.9.07), the robbers, one armed with agun and the others, a parang and an iron rod, entered the shop located on the Lower Ground of the shopping centre.

The gunman kept watch outside while his accomplices forced 3 female workers to squat behind the counter.

While the two were breaking the glass showcase to grab the jewellery, the gunman forced some 10 people who were dining in a fast food outlet ( McDonalds ? )opposite the shop to leave.

It is learnt that he also fired shots causing people to run for cover.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Re: Jewellery shop in JB robbed

Lucky they dint rape the girls at the shop. Close shave.

actually when i first started going into JB years ago, i was surprised to read and hear of daylight robbery happening in crowded malls and shops.. mostly robbing banks and jewel shops.

Perling mall, Bestmart etc etc... have open robbery and these robbers are seriously professional in their work.

Whenever i go to JB for business, new robbery news will be told to me by my kawan.. so many robbery that some dont even make the news.
