PHUKET: An Englishman found dead in his Patong hotel room yesterday morning apparently died from an overdose of prescription drugs.

Police are treating the case as suicide.

Kathu Police duty officer Jongserm Preecha identified the deceased as Brian Bibby, a 57-year-old originally from Wigan in the UK.

Staff at The Gallery hotel on Soi Jintana in Patong reported the death to Kathu Police at 10am yesterday.

Maj Jongserm said a suicide note and a large quantity of prescription medicine found inside the room led police to conclude Mr Bibby chose to end his own life.

There were no signs of trauma found on Mr Bibby’s body, which was taken to Patong Hospital for further examination.

The suicide note read:

To my family
The last wish in my life is for you to make it possible to leave my ashes in Thailand.
Spread my ashes in Loma Park, nearby the beach.
Thank You.

Police estimate that Mr Bibby died about two days before staff at the hotel discovered his body.

Mr Bibby’s belongings are now in the possession of the UK honorary consul in Phuket, police said.

Staff at the hotel told the Gazette this morning that Mr Bibby checked into the hotel more than two months ago.

He appeared happy, loved to stay near the sea and did not want to return home, they said.

He had paid his hotel room fee in advance and left a 1,000-baht tip for the staff, along with a letter thanking them for taking such good care of him during his stay there.

The British diplomatic mission in Thailand this afternoon confirmed that Mr Bibby's relatives back in England have been informed of his passing.

the review can be viewed in agoda.com website. Click on the hotel review. apparently there is a guy whom stayed there, complaint about the odour foul smell, and it's only later than they realised someone had died in the room below his after sveral days unnoticed.

Agreed. I actually enjoyed my recent stay at The Gallery. Location is good, price is reasonable (during low season) and access to many areas are a breeze.

Live Update... It has been raining since my arrival. Finally on the 3rd day the sun came out. waste no time faster wake up thou i only slept at 5am. send my gal home which i pick up from Hollywood again. paid 2k she wanted to accompany but i told her i am sorry i am meeting my friends later.

Ride my bike all the way to Wat Chalong, went up to Big Buddha. Came back to patong to meet Slaughter and friends for lunch. Thank Bro Sential21 for bringing me to chicken rice the last time, brought them to the chicken rice, 3 plate of chicken rice at 150bhat only. which is around SGD2 per person. When to buy some shorts, t-shirt etc and than went for massage opp Christine.

Bro Sential21, pick up your last time that massage girl.. wow massage damn good, fall asleep during the massage but was awake by her as she try to awake my bro... have FJ at 2000B in the wooden room.. poor her has to kept her noise down. damn exciting.

After Massage when back to have a sleep till almost 8.30pm guess i am too tired liao cos only have 4 hours of sleep. met bro Slaughter to have korean food, cost around 2.8K.. abit ex.

When back recharge again and when to Hollywood to enjoy my last night in phuket. Wow tonight is damn packed lots of syt compare to the my 2nd night maybe it was raining. Haha was appoached my a few CMI gals.. turn them down by moving away and some quite irate keep advancing on you. haha found the gal i have enjoyed the pervious trip when back with her and a good night.

Now at airport waiting for boarding.. while waiting for boarding i am planning my next trip to bkk and pattaya. i guess i will be back in Phuket only by June for island tour as i miss the chance this time round due to raining.

The fare I paid for TigerAir is about $180 with additional 12.5kg both leg.

Is the chicken rice shop by the name Briley? Was surprise it taste about the same like local chicken rice. A plate and a coke just cost 60b. cheap cheap...
