Vietnamese Dong rate update

I will be in Hanoi for several days... any good place for currency exchange there?
I heard the authority is shutting down those Jewelery shops doing currency exchanges... how bad is the situation? should I exchange at the airport?

That depends where you eat. Average Salary for Sporean in SG, Spore per month is S$2k to $$3k. Average Salary for vietnamese in SG, SaiGon per month is $200 to $300. So do your maths.

If you eat like tourist, expect tourist prices, if you eat like locals, expect local price at 20'000 Dong a meal, but you need to order in vietnamese or act out the food (e.g. say moo moo for beef, oink oink for pork, cluck cluck for chicken and put your hand together and make waving movement with your hand for fish). Its kinda fun. Otherwise, point at the menu if there is one (some menu have no pictures, but that is the fun part, you dont know what you will be getting!)

I suggest you befriend a local to bring you out to eat, if your local friend is a girl, she will pluck vegetables for you to eat and pour your drink, but you will never know if she had washed her hand or not(also check out the condition of the toilet where she had washed her hands, you will see some surprises hehehe). Ask her to bring you out on a motobike and you will save on transport cost (and remember you may not return if she decide to sell you hahaha, but no risk no gain lar, Aiyoh).

Yup the authority are shutting down all the money changing since 5-6 days ago Hano and HCM is the same only change at the bank there. Now is better to exchange 1st before going there. Not sure if these is going to end.

hello bro.....no hard feelings if i might sound very straight forward....activities in Hanoi i am not sure....but if in HCMC,its still very easy to do money exchange in those goldsmiths shop......

1) Massage: Most hotel with massage facilities. 150k to 200k entrance fees. special at 200k to 400k (don't ask for price, act blur and just pay)

2) Hot toc: Google and Search "Hot Toc"

3) FOC: Vietnamese girls are very friendly, just befriend any sales girls, waitress, receptionist etc, get their phone numbers, ask them to bring you out for meals (you pay) and whoa la!

Not very good advice to fellow bro .... I guess you do not know the market rate and what's happening here in VN ....

I presume your " exchange 1st before going there" means change in Singapore .... Even change in bank or money changer in HCMC is still ALOT ALOT BETTER than changing in Singapore .....

FYI, I change in airport on 24 /3 is 16,535 and I just change @ BT gold smith shop last night @ 2030 hrs and the rate is 16,665 Vnd ....

Yo bro, just to share some info on goldsmith at the location nearby my hotel the last time I visit. The one you recommend near CBT (left side of CBT, when facing CBT main road entrance).

If you go into the shop, talk in Singlish to them, once they know you are Singaporean, they are more likely to befriend you and change money because one of the owner children study in Singapore. For me, at that time they even close the glass door so that I can count my money slowly inside.
