In the EPL today going by latest crazy valuations, I would say £30m is equivalent to the 'old' £20m and likewise £40m is equivalent to the 'old' £30m. Unfortunately there is going to be a premium where any EPL clubs are involved and yet a higher premium if the player is English.

These dead wood players even if they don't play they still get pay so they won't settle for less if they get transferred to another club

he was very good for Newcastle start of the season but he fizzled out towards the end. and could not save the club from relegation.

All depends on the age of these players.

Best eg. would be Winston Bogarde at Chelsea between 2000-2004. He joined when Vialli was manager but only afew weeks after signing, Ranieri came in and Claudio did not want Bogarde. Chelsea tried getting rid of him but no other club was willing to match his hefty Chelsea contract salary, so Bogarde stayed put. Chelsea tried everything to push Winston out, even placing him in the youth team but Bogarde refused to budge, happily collecting his £40k weekly salary which was a princely sum at that time. All in Winston only made 9 appearances for Chelsea in his 5 years at the club. He joined Chelsea at age 30 and when he finished off his contract he was 34 and retired thereafter with his Chelsea 'pension fund'

Now both Benteke and Balotelli on the otherhand still have their prime football playing time left. So I don't think they can take the infamous Bogarde approach.

Think it shall now all depend on how much 'pain' and humiliation Benteke and Balotelli are willing to take

Liverpool have too many players for that position (Number 10).

Since he is versatile, I hope he commands the midfield since Henderson is unable to do that job.

Hopefully B and B have thin skins but being paid that kind of amounts and their age maybe they think they can wait till their contracts run out and they will be gotten for the cheap they will take a gamble and wait it out
