i travel to Kengtung often. you dont need a visa to enter tachilek. jst bring along US10 or THB500 (yes, pay in USD cuz 10USD is only 340thb) for the pass, your passport and 3 ID photo

go in the thai immigration, chop ur passport, walk over the bridge and cross over the right hand side of the bridge (at this point, the directions of traffic changes from left to right, so people please look at the correct side of the road before crossing! hahaa)

There will be some official slacking there, imform them u are going for 1 day trip or going further more den just the town of tachilek.

For 10USD, you are entitled to 14days border permit to travel up to Kengtung and Mongla (by land)

They will collect the money, bring u into a room to take a digital picture for ur pass, collect your ID photos and fillup some forms (surprisingly such simple task can take up to 30 mins LOL)

and there you are good to go.

Remember to tell them where u are going, whether it is shopping around tachilek (1day pass) or going to Mongla or Kengtung (14day pass)

Info for bro. To goto the chiangrai bus station from wiang inn. Just come out from hotel facing the road turn right, when u reach the conner turn right. Walk about 100 meter or walk till 7-11, u will see the bus station opps 7.

To goto chiangmai go to the green booth. Look at the sign chiangrai to chiangmai. Tell them going to chiangmai ah ket. Vip aircon coach cost 260 baht. Duration to cnx is 3hrs.

The bus leave the station every hour.

Will post the pic when i reach my wife's shop tomorrow evening.

ok reach cnx within 3hrs. the bus ride is comfortable. give us snacks and water.

bus stop at Chiang mai arcade bus terminal. it outside chiangmai. when u come down from the bus. there will be alot of pple asking u to take tutu, motorsai.

so i take my own sweet time have a smoke n catch a motorsai to vista hotel for just 60 bahts.

once reach vista hotel told the driver wait for me. want him to bring me to apnam hehehe.

Checkin vista hotel with queen size bed cost 750 baht. if is a 2 bed is only 550baht. vista hotel quite ok but if u want to find entertainment is abit out. the royal family use to come to this hotel n stay that was long long time ago.

get my things in the room and ask driver bring me to apnam. he brought me to sayuri complex, girls are so so, they have model girls and fish tanks girls. model girl cannot make it so i go look at fish tank cant find any i want cos i prefer narak mei mei.

ask my driver any other place have narak girls. told me that this is one of the biggest le the rest quiet small. so i stay n look ard for awhile. after that told my driver to tell okt i want one of the mei mei .

damage was 1300 baht. the girl service not bad quiet sop but at least better then yesterdays girls. the apnam place is quiet old.

now back in vista hotel. walk out from the right of the hotel n there is a shop selling fishballs mee and pork rib mee. hear it one of the famous stalls in chiangmai. even tv also show their shop about their food.

their fishball very small. food is not bad. i havent really try the pork rib soup i hear from my buddy that the soup is damn good. keep forgeting to try it........

anyway this shop full of pple. when come to 6pm plus it already full house. so had to wait.

anyway i think today is enough for me liao nb im tired liao cannot go one more round of firing lol. need rest for reserve

ok think this is the end of my lonely planet tour from chiangrai to chiangmai. hope the bros here get some info of where n how to go about moving ard in the north.

the info is abit out cos the title of this is maesai info but i think i share some info about the north area as a whole.

After bbq dinner, i went to rent a car near wiang inn. The same way to bbq area. Rental for a honda city per day 1200 baht. Rent a car n went home put my things. Wanted to eat puss in hometown but worry kanna seen by my girl's friend or relative. LL drove back to chiangrai.

digital pict? did i see wrongly? haha. Haven't been there in few years. The last time i remember they were still using the photos i provided them to process the border pass. Which makes me wonder, why even bring normal photos in that case?

On several occassions, i was denied entry further than town of tachilek. I was told there were militants fighting in the smaller towns area and this is for my own safety. Furthest i was allowed to venture was Tachilek. So depends on your luck also.

VMtech, did u have to provide a "driver's name" to the immigration official for them to process ur trip to Kengtung or did u take public transport?

no u didnt see wrongly and im not typing crap. they have computoors now. you need normal pictures still because the digital picture is only on ur pass, the pictures are stapled on ur forms etc. hope that clears it up.

drivers' name not needed. in fact they will ask u if u are planning to take the bus or a cab, and if u are taking a cab, do u already have a driver, if not, they can get 1 for you.

when did this come into effect? my last trip up was in 2004 and i had to provide the taxi driver's name to be filled in a form, which was to be produced at the military internal checkpoint.

so everytime, my gf's neighbour cum taxi driver has to provide his particulars for my visit to be "approved".

Yea i confirm the digi photo taking. They now using a webcam to take photo from comp and print out to the form. Take alook at the pic i post. It said thier comp. are slow. Hehehe the last trip i went was on jan 07.

Bro do u mean now they also need additional photo beside the digi photo on the form? Or is it if u go stay longer then a day trip then u need to give them photo? Cos they never ask me any when i go for day trip on jan 07.

When i was there nov was cold but not as bad as dec. Nb dec i go there i LL had to go buy long pants cos damn farking cold. Especially in the night. My girl villiage near alot of hills so the weather there fooking cold. Even bath hotwater also very cold after that.
