Hatyai is very, very safe under the 'protection' of our Resident Taikoh. He controls everything there - puyings, hotel, entertainment,massage, food,transport and even the famous Hatyai Tigress. However, one thing he cannot control is the Hatyai flood !

Most of these protesters are actually jobless people from those poor villages and u're right.. most of them are paid by the opposition politician to join in as protesters.

I go to bangkok i would still tell the thais that i am singaporean rather then tell them i am from malaysia.

Btw, if you keep reading news from bangkok post, i will be just one sided story. Face the fact, they "the opposition party of thailand" are just trying to find ways to get thaksin down, and they are playing a dangerous game as they don't really care abt the economy of thailand and they just to rally to benefit themself.

The Nation newspaper is even more anti-Thaksin... backed by NGOs and opposition who only have only thing in common -to push Thaksin down, they don't have any common vision or goals to improve and progress the country.
It is worrying that a democratically elected leader with 2/3 of votes may be pushed down by minority elite of NGOs, opposition and intellectual. The opposition know they cannot defeat and unseat Thaksin in April2 election so decide to boycott and use daily nonsensical protests to disrupt life.
Now the opposition talk about amending constitution when they know they cannot beat Thaksin. The antiThaksin protesters only rallied 50000 at Sanam Luang while Thaksin had 200000 at his rally.
This is a sad reversal of Aquino People Power movement in Phillippines years ago when majority people movement pushed down minority Marcos govt.
It may be the first ever modern democracy where minority opposition rather majority will rule.
Being a relatively new democracy (only abt 14 years since 1992), Thailand is still volatile and unstable politically which is why it is important that it maintains development politics of Thaksin rather than excessive focus on petty rights,ethics.

I beg to differ here..Thailand's democracy has been established since 1932 when King Pradjadipok abdicated to gave way to a constitutional monarchy with a elected House of representative [parliament] and renamed Siam to Thailand [Land of peace]. Eventhough it is an older democracy, it experienced the most coups in the world. So, their democrarcy could be altered by the military [another minority] but powerful.

seems like my thread has become a module for Southeast Asian studies. Except what we have here and the institute at NUS doesn't have is the element of sex. Whether is this still Chakri Dynasty, or Paya Thaksin killed by General Chakri are all in the past.

Actually, many countries in fact most can call themselves democratic, but they are in fact Stalinist, Autocratic, Communist by nature.

The only democracy exist in the texts written by Socrates, Platos, blah blah.

Its a minority who wants Thaksin to quit and if Thaksin really quits, will his supporters go support the Democrats?

So to ask the majority to follow the wishes of the minority, totally shows a lack of democracy in that country.

Should the Democrats change names to Communists instead?

Will the rest of Thailand be happy if the minority oust Thaksin out of his seat?

It's only a sad fact which the democrats knew that they can't win Thaksin, thats why the only avenue for them is to boycott the election and "forcing" Thaksin to quit.

Whether I am a supporter of Thaksin or not isn't the issue. If anyone is not happy with Thaksin government, then they should come out for the election and show to the rest of the public what they are worth for. Who knows, they might even win his Thaksin's party if they ever stood for election and not boycott.

Boycotting only shows how naive these politicians are and definitely wouldn't help their economy if they are showing to the world they are actually no different from Myanmar.
