U sure or not? Almost everything u can invest in has been losing big bucks. Singapore's stocks have lost about 30% since November and is likely to lose another 10-20% over the next 2 months. It's the same story in europe, us and other asian countries.

If u want special, u must invest quite a lot of $$$, say ($100K). Bonk already then see your funds drop 10-20%. is it worth it?

Re: Financial planner

Most of these so-called FPs in the industry now are basically air-heads. They just want to earn commission only. They know nothing about making $ grow. I'm still looking for one who can make my $ grow in these turbulent times. Based on hearsay, can invest in those funds dealing Agriculture, Raw materials, Brazil, Vietnam. Anyone second that?

I must agree that those with no or little credential make us lose money than make money. I have once encountered a chio banker in one of the banks. Her presentation is good and told me that particular european property fund is growing at around one cent per day. Well, based on the data at that time, I must admit the fund looks promising and sank in $40k. Unfortunately, one day the fund was hit by sub-prime woes and the fund depreciated like nobody's business. She did not even bother to give me a status on the situation. Called her more than 10 times, but refused to answer my calls. No choice, I have to inform the bank and sell the fund at a loss. However, months later, she rings me up trying to sell me another fund. Sorry, no way!

My point is FPs or bankers are supposed to make close follow-up on your investments. They should not be ordinary salespersons who close a deal and that's it. Good technical knowledge and monitoring is utmost important.

For me, current economic situation is to violatile for any form of investments. I will lay low for at least 2 months before pumping in any monies.

That is why I got no confidence in these self-declared financial planners. They can talk that is about it but no real substance. Talking with them is just a waste of time. Better to do my own investing and take charge.

Bro, well said.

But sadly, thats the case these days. Its widely known that this line can earn alot of money. And usually those who are in this line are all the chio or yandao ones. Anyone smart enough should know its the strategy for the banks to get these ladies/hunks to be their salesperson.

Advice is, Use the head thats at the top of your body to think, not the heart thats fluttering or the one in your pants to decide for you.

Don't just simply buy, market is too volatile at this moment.
US$ is already all time low against major currency..

Bro, pls do your due diligence. I learnt the hard way that no one cares for your money more than yourself. So rather than look for ppl who can help you grow your $, why not educate yourself in the basics? It's not too difficult.

Commodities and emerging economies are great but they can also be very volatile. IMHO, these times are not turbulent yet, but rather, trying times. When you see everyone writing off investments, that is probably the time to start. Meanwhile, build up your funds and knowledge/skills first.

ps: i'm not a FP but i don't mind bonking one

bro, these few months the markets are very volatile, however that doesn't mean in the long term markets won't pick up. what's go up, have to come down and what go down, have to come up.

investment is for long term and so long, your $ is parked in asian funds. your $ should be quite safe for the next 5 years. markets now are low, things are cheap, it's good time to buy in.

i'm a FP. just my 2 cents worth of comments.

Re: Finanical planner

If you look @ short term volatility, then it seems like a bad buy. But we are not punters when it comes to investment, if we adopt a short sighted approach then we may be missing on the bigger picture.

One can never time the market, neither can we always buy @ the lowest & sell @ the highest.

I've had my share of lousy investments, but that is not to say I've not made any from investments also.

So the point I'm trying to make is if u have the conviction to see through ya investment then it'll turn out better, then to subject yourself to fears of short term loses & exit.

BTW: I'm a FP, but seriously my objective is to better my client's position & not just make a quick buck. What goes around will come around, when my clients do well I also do well. So it is just a matter of scratching each other's backs.

FPs are driven by commision so u cant blame them for churning pdts. Most of them know nuts abt financial instruments that they r selling - beside the selling points. They r essentially financial salesperson; the term "planner" is a marketing tool to soften their image.

PS: U make ur own money-making decision - either u invest on ur own or employ the right person to do it.

Buy low and sell high is the essence of investment. Volatile markets create the lows u r looking for too.

Re: Finanical planner

Only consider FP investment if investing for long term. The spread or commission the financial institution make is so big few % that if you make a bit, all go to them.

Example, I step into a bank recently wanting to buy NZ dollar since they pay 8% interest. I realised that the spread vuy and sell difference of NXZ dollar is greater than 2%, that means whatever you make from interest in the first few months is actually gone .... so if you thinking of 3 months term deposits ,.... u have negative interest and still hv risk of currency fluctuations ....

Re: Finanical planner

Let's keep back to sex before sam comes in to zap all. My point remains... U are crazy with your own money if you think u can get sex while doing up a profitable investment. If the financial planner is so good at earning money for the clients, she will have lots of business, no need to spread legs to entice u to invest.
