However, there is a 3rd category of pussy and that belongs to the Tigress in the ' Tiger Show '. Singapore school in Bangkok on high alert : Security guards warned to watch for unusual activity


As anti-Singapore sentiment grows following the purchase of Shin Corp by Temasek Holdings, a Singaporean international school in Bangkok has stepped up security measures for its students and staff.

The school, whose name is being withheld, has instructed all its security guards to be on the highest state of alert, with its gates locked at all times.

Any unauthorised persons, protesters or groups moving towards the premises must be immediately reported to the administrative office, according to instructions issued by the school.

"Our drivers have been told to be more alert. For safety reasons in the face of possible extremists, the school has decided to temporarily remove the school's name plate from its vans," the institution said.

"This is an important precaution as we have no way of knowing if our vans will pass any of the protest areas in different parts of Bangkok," it added.

The Singaporean Embassy in Bangkok will keep in close contact with the school during these tense times.

Singapore was dragged into the ongoing domestic political conflict after protesters accused the city-state's government of involvement in the business deal between its investment arm, Temasek, and Shin Corp, owned by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatara's family.

The Shinawatra and Damaphong families sold their stake in Shin to Temasek for a largely tax-free Bt73 billion. The anti-Thaksin People's Alliance for Democracy has launched a campaign to boycott goods and services from Singapore, accusing it of entering into an unregulated deal with Thaksin.

The alliance held protests in front of the Singaporean Embassy in Bangkok on Tuesday and Thursday.

Oh, it is a matter of interpretations. There were many events subsequent to the ending of monarchies and / or conversion of absolute monarchy to constitutinal monarchies. One needs to draw a thin line between government by one person [absolute monarchy] and a government by the people and for the people!

Lets take the example of France. With the victories of the French revolution, French monarchy practically came to an end and many historians and political science experts regarded that was the beginining of French democracy whereby there existed a government [albeit weak] elected by the denizens. China undergone a similar situation: Emperor Puyi abdicated in 1912 and came under house arrest until 1924, yet many still regarded China's democracy started from 1911, eventhough China was only being united not until 1931 and became a republic under a central government! If democracy is considered as a prolong period of time, then you could get none as you can see in France, democracy was interrupted by Napoleon, and China by the warlords and the communists too.

In Thailand, it was recorded that in November 1933, after the abdication of King Prajadipok in June 1932, there was an election and eventhough 10% of the eligible voters had voted [maybe those days...they were kaisi...] a democractic government was elected in and headed by Pridi Phanomyong. Of course, the military took control afterwards and in many series of coups, it culminated in the resignation of Kittikachorn in 1978.

For most of the 1980s, Thailand was ruled by Prem Tinsulanonda, a general who took charge as head of the military government but who received a democratic mandate in 1983. Thereafter the country remained a democracy apart from a brief period of military rule from 1991 to 1992. The populist Thai Rak Thai party, led by prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has governed since 2001.

So IMHO, Thailand's democracy actually started in 1933. 1992 only saw a significantly stable democratic government...but it can be disrupted anytime, who knows....Of course to get a "true democracy" anywhere in this world is just like "utopia" [dream only lah]

1) Please do not confuse constitutional monarchy with democracy. As pointed out by wiki, NOT all constitutional monarchies =representative democraries as was the case in Thailand even though it became constitutional monarchy in 1932.

As I had mentioned earlier, it was a matter of interpretations, so if you think that it was not sufficient for Thailand to qualify for "democracy" then be it loh. You are not wrong in any sense, just like American's definition of freedom cannot fully apply in Malaysia!
