Re: As a part-time job, which is better - Grab or Uber?
The car I drive everyday is registered in my son’s name. That means I cannot be a grab hitch driver?

Re: As a part-time job, which is better - Grab or Uber?
If it is just for weekend & public holiday, it is much better to do relieve driving. You rid yourself from all the admin & contractual work with the rental Company. You just share the cost with the renter using a simple mutual agreement.

Re: As a part-time job, which is better - Grab or Uber?
Yes, you can. Just download the app. From the menu, select drive with grab and from the type of drive, select grab hitch. Follow the on-line screen procedure for application and submit relevant documents for processing which will takes around 3 days.

Quote:
I'll try to answer your questions and more additional info to help you decide which way to go: (1) Earnings-wise, is Uber or Grab better? There is no exact answer to this. They are changing incentives all the time so it can be one or the other at different time. Generally, Grab gives more incentives than Uber but it's getting harder and harder to achieve. If you want to earning more and willing to take more stress, do Grab as their high surge fare can be rather insane sometimes (talking about $30 for a 5 mins trip) (2) Should I use my own car? Some people say they rent a car to do it as they don't want to wear down their own car. If you are doing full time, renting a car is better as all the cost of maintenance is borne by the rental company. And you get to choose a more fuel economy car too which is very critical in cost saving. However, for part timer, rental is bad idea because the rental alone can eat up more than half of your earnings, unless you can use the car to make more income elsewhere. Also, using your own car is safer when it comes to accident because the rental company will always try to make you pay for it regardless of who's at fault. A friend of mine just gone through such experience and still fighting with them on this! (3) Is renting a car better? Do you have any recommendations on where to rent one? How are the rates? As mentioned above, whether to rent a car depends on your driving commitment, full time or part time. There is a very aggressive rental promotion going on right by Uber & Grab. You can check out with them for exact rates because it changes all the time. My advise is, do NOT commit to long term no matter how attractive it looks. At least sign a contract for 3 months and renew after that. You do not want to get stuck with a long term contract. (4) If I spent half a day doing it (2 pm to 8 pm) from Monday to Friday, how much can I expect to earn? You are driving mostly during the day so the earnings will be lesser. The main peak hours are from 6am-9am and 6pm-12am. Outside those hours you will be making the basic fares mostly. If you are not picky (like some of us :-D) and willing to take any calls, you should be able to collect about $25-$35 per hour. That is gross fare before deducting your rental & petrol, and 20% commission. (5) Is it safe for a woman driver to do this? Absolutely :-) I know quite a few lady drivers too, and pretty good looking ones...Just be prepared if some pax asked for your phone number :-D (6) If feasible, how do I start? You can sign up from Grab or Uber website anytime when you are ready, or go down their office if you have questions to ask them in person. Or look for some Grab or Uber ambassador (sales men basically) and they might have some good offer for you. Let me know if you need any contact (I'm not one of them). There are many tricks and tips to maximize your earnings when you get started. These are very essential to know or else you will working like a slave and earning peanuts while driving long hours. Just let me know if you interested to find out. Cheers! |
