Join SIA as first officer for 32 year old males. $8k basic pay which isn't inclusive of all the allowances and benefits they get. And no. I don't see why he's worried because he'll get a $1m retirement bonus from the SAF when he turns 50 and then still have a job with SIA waiting for him.

Its been halved. Not $1m anymore. Go investigate. He will end up like many. Cash rich but cost of living bleeding his reserves. How long will reserves last?

Btw, do you have children?

I beg to differ...Cash rich is certainly whether is it $1MM or $500K. Whether cost of living will bleed his reserves or not will depend on individuals and is very subjective and relative.

Agreed. It also depends on what one classifies as cost of living. For me, cost of living is not price of mee pok and house brands chilli sauce at NTUC. That, I have no problems. To me, cost of living includes medical bills. Each cancer case is $75,000.

Maybe this is why some people here misunderstand. They have not paid for a cancer patient..... so they think I am "complaining" about our mee pok price.

Can anyone bro who went through a medical crisis share?

Which is why escalating cost of living is a big concern. If you follow news, the govt realized this a few years back. I am not the first to highlight this, you know?

To you, medical bills is part of cost of living. To others, children education or owning a Bentley , Bugati or RR are also part of cost of living. It is to each his own and is very subjective. To you, medical billls for cancer of $75K is high. High as compared to what? FYI, people who are in dire straits did actually complain about the food price at our hawker centre.

I believe some of us have actually paid huge medical bills before. For me, I did pay for medical bills for my grandmother before and now paying for my mum.

Do you have evidence to prove that the amount has been halved? I cannot find evidence of that online. I believe that even if they halve it, officers who signed on before it came into effect should still be receiving their original promised retirement fund.

It's not fair if I joined the Air Force for 30 years of my life and then 2 months before I retire, they tell me that they changed the scheme and I'll only get 50% of my promised retirement fund right? I will sure KPKB.

And like I said, he will still have a career as a SIA pilot (Captain, because of seniority and number of flight hours etc) ahead of him after his mandatory retirement from the RSAF.

Also, has he been given a staff job or is he still flying? Most fighter pilots will be given staff jobs instead after a few years of flying. If he is not flying a fighter jet (flying Heli or Transport Aircrafts instead), his pay will consequently be different.

And to top it off, the compulsory retirement age for RSAF personnel was 44 years old. Not sure if he benefits from the new raised retirement age for new recruits.

Are you sure you know what you're talking about?

Are you sure that each cancer case cost S$75,000 (and up, I assume) to treat? For any type of cancer in any ward?

Haha you sure you want to drive a Maserati? It is as reliable as (or less reliable than) a Chery QQ.

And if you want to fly First Class "cheap" (unfortunately not SIA)... PM me and I can help you.

This is why there is misunderstanding. People are saying I should not complain because there are worse off people who can't even afford hawker food. Of course I know there are people worst off! I am saying I agree with their woes wholeheartedly.

It is like saying, You can pay for hawker food so "Diam lah, what about me, I can't". So that person who can pay for hawker food should also Diam lah when there is someone who can't buy shoes? So, only the poorest person in this country have a right to complain? The rest should just Diam lah. Does this logic make sense?

Btw, what medical bills have you paid? Inpatient or outpatient? What ailments? Do you find them cheap?
