I had been Shenzhen twice for 1 week each, the place is so happening and like no law. I went there to visit my PRC Gal and stay at her place.

Staying at Shenzhen is erhh how u describe, u can stay in the house without going out for the whole week or month if u want, everything u need like a pack of cigrattes or some mineral water to food, just pick up the phone and they will send over.

Field Report for Zhuhai, Xiang Zhou District, Gong Bei Locality.

Background Information:

Zhuhai was part of Zhong Shan in the early days, however, due to it's connectivity with Macau & sea routes connection to Hong Kong, it have grown remarkably through the recent decades.

Now, Zhuhai is a City by itself, and have broken away from Zhong San (Origination of Sun Yat Sun -> please correct me if I am wrong)

Geography of Zhuhai:

Zhuhai is just north of Macau, and is due north west of Hong Kong.

Travelling from Shenzhen to Zhuhai is via Shenzhen's Shekou Seaport to Zhuhai's Jiuzhou Seaport. Cost about RMB 75 for one direction. It's about 1 hour of sea route journey.

Zhuhai is a city of sea, it is surrounded by the south china sea, and there are numerous connecting long bridges to each and every part of Zhuhai.

Zhuhai consist of 3 major Districts;

1. Xiang Zhou (the most happening district)

2. Dou Men (Industrial Area, somewhat like Jurong of Singapore)

3. Hai Wan (I've not ventured to that area yet, so know not much of it)

Population of Zhuhai:

Estimated to be about 800,000 to 900,000 people inclusive of moveable population (travellers like you and me)

In this field report, I'll only focus on this district, Xiang Zhou, at Gong Bei Locality.

For brothers reading this report, that have been to Zhuhai, and is familiar, please correct me if the information is not correct, most information I've obtained here is via my own experience, and questionings of the locals.

Begining of Report:

9th June 2005, Thursday, 1530Hrs.

Just arrived Zhuhai's Seaport, Jiuzhou Seaport.

Feeling somewhat anticipative, as I've visited Gong Bei's Lian Hua Lu before, and is bent to try it out again, but this time with style and proper planning.

So, I've planned to visit my customers first, and business first, and pleasure later.

1630Hrs - 2000Hrs

Business as usual, usual business discussions, and things are concluded... and time for fun! hahaha...

2030Hrs

I've checked into my hotel, Xi Fa Jiu Dian (same as the Gong Xi Fa Cai's Xi Fa)... got a room rate of RMB 160 for the whole night... rather good deal.

[Travelling tip, NEVER check into the hotel without prior booking, for a 3 star hotel prices in Zhuhai, it'll cost you at least RMB 300 if you walk in! So, you can make your reservation in the friendly Hotel Reservation at Shenzhen's Shekou Seaport]

I've assessed the bed, it's queen sized, and it's a bit hard, like those in Hai3 Ma3 Branding (SeaHorse Brand) -> "I've thought to myself, hmmm... I'm going to have a nice bonking session tonight!"

The room is satisfactory, and the view from my 19th Floor room is good. Before checking in, a Taxi Driver told me of this location, Jiu3 Ba1 Yi4 Tiao2 Jie1 (Bars in one street)
that is just 5 minutes walk from my hotel.

So, after my shower, I've changed into my sperminator attire, looking for fun and excitement...

I've scheduled the following plan for myself;

1. Goal -> Get a fuck, no matter what happens.

2. Tour Bars in one street, at Shui Wan Lu (this roand links to Shui Wan Nan Lu, to Macau)

As it was a thursday evening, the bars in Shui Wan Lu (due North from my Hotel), there wasn't really much people in that stretch of bars.

My assessment of this place is that it resembles Singapore's Clarke Quay or Boat Quay, less the river along it.

There are a wide selection of Bars, ranging from BBQ Bars to Beer Bars... all projecting a very westernized image. If you're there, you may imagine that you are in a western country.

The people there would be classified as middle to middle upper and above class of people.

Only get to see a few B2s and B1s category girls there, no As unfortunately.

The beer price is steep though, for a small bottle of Qing Dao Beer, it'll cost RMB 20!
It's actually more expensive then Shenzhen... and I thought Zhuhai should be cheaper, but no.

Actually, after some comparison, I realized that Shenzhen compared to Zhuhai have a lower cost of entertainment!

Getting bored of this place at Shui Wan Lu, but I've concluded that it'll be a good place for gatherings, girl friend outings, group outings etc... or maybe to entertain Ang Moh's Client... they'll appreciate the atmosphere.

Proceeded to Lian Hua Lu...

As the previous time I went to Lian Hua Lu was in the wee hours (1 to 2 am), but this time round, Lian Hua Lu is bustling with life... This place is the Orchard Road of Zhuhai...

Most of the shopping complex is concentrated here (but the shopping complex resembles something like Tanjong Katong Style... very 70s design)

Due to it's low population, Zhuhai is sparsely spreaded, and the concentration of people is not that many, not like Singapore, nor Shenzhen.

When I entered Lian Hua Lu, I found that there are Policemen guarding the entrance of the happening place. I thought to myself, "Xiao leow lah, got police, where got Free Lancers?"

My concern happen to be true, at that timing there were no Free lancers.

& So, I've proceeded to Tian Di Ren Jian Discotech...

2145Hrs

Just opposite of Great Aim Hotel, or Hua2 Ce4 Jiu3 Dian4, a recently upgraded 4 Star hotel. I've heard that this hotel is very popular for tour groups, and it's usually full. The price is rather reasonable too, it's about RMB 300+++ to get in for a night, the advantage of staying there is that it's right in the centre of all HAPPENING PLACES of Zhuhai, Xiang Zhou District, Gong Bei Locality, Lian Hua Lu.

But strange, that time about 10pm, not much people yet... when I stepped into the Discotech, it's not crowded.

At the third Floor, it's more of a KTV main lounge, usual stuffs, but they are playing some house or techno music in chinese version... kind of irritating for me, and noisy... sigh...

So, I've moved down all the way to the first floor (actually at the basement 1 of the entire building cum shopping mall.) Now, there is some activity going on... beer price is reasonable also, RMB 10 for a Heiniken, small bottle (there is some promotion going on now).

It's playing somesort of Techno/House Chinese music... and it's crazy... sometimes I think to myself, are there really people enjoying this kind of music?

As I was moving around... SYT!!! SWEET YOUNG THING smiling at me, and waving at me, inviting me to sit at her Bar Counter.

[FYI, in China, talking bars are common in established KTVs, Talking Bars in Shekou, Talking Bars in BetterOle, etc... and usually the bar tender (usually pretty SYTs) will entertain you with dices and jokes...]

So, I've went over there, and asked for the beer price for Budweiser. She says, "that'll be RMB 16 per bottle, but minimum order of half a dozen (RMB 96)"

I replied,"If I sit at the table over there, it'll be RMB 10 for me right?"
