Sillypore land make us silly and closes our eyes.
Dont look at % alone, must link with other factors and wonder how and why...
17% vs 5%, of cos that side higher, no need to say much.
But do you know, our water tax is 30%!!!!!! + 5% GST???
TV licence, which is unheard of in this world cost us $110, which in the end the sillypore govt collected 100millions.......
Traffice summons help them earned 1Billion almost every year....story goes on...
The overall picture must put together and weigh the differences.
Normal inflation calculation is base on Transport and housing and many others, our sillypore govt use EGG!!!!!!!!!!!

Bro Guessguy,
You can go to the following areas to shop for your office attire/clothes;

1) Huai Hai Zhong Rd, junction Huang Pi Rd. Pacific Dept Store (Tai Ping Yang Dept Store). Similar to our old time Metro Dept Store, with lots of merchandise to shop for ranging from ladies to men's wear, household to beddings, etc....you name it, they have it. Respectable Dept store, no cheating would occur.

2) Huai Hai Zhong Rd, junction of Shan Xi Rd. Parkson Dept Store (the same Malaysian owned store). Everything is similar to above Tai Ping Yang Dept store as mentioned.

Since it's your vrgin trip, advise you NOT to go to individual shops along Shan Xi Rd, Mao Ming Rd, etc.....need alot of haggling skills in term shopping at little shops like these, even though one might find gem sometimes in such shops or places.

Depending of where you are living/working there is also another Parkson department store (similar to the n mentioned by SGPShanghai69) in Hongqiao area: Zunyi rd, between xianxia rd and Tian Shan rd.
And after shopping you can go to Yu Ping HC, it is 5mn walk from there

and yes, if you go to the 5th or 6th floor of that parkson, there is a restaurant that serves frog claypot poriddge Geylang style. Check it out if you miss home. The rest of their dishes are less than stellar.

Say, Zunyi rd, isn't that close to YPH???

If you need suits or cashmere coats, I suggest you get them tailored.
The famous Dong Jia Du is closed I think. I heard talk of them moving to Xizhang Lu and Guoqing Lu. I have yet to confirm. I have a tailor that a bunch of us singaporeans go to a lot. reasonable prices. PM me if you need this contact

If you shop at any major store in a major shopping mall, you will not get cheated. Check the stores in Gateway Plaza (Ganghui Guangchang) in Xu Jia Hui. V-one and Giodarno seems really decent with good pricing. Many stores there so walk around. You can try Raffles city also off people's square. Or the two bro SHASGP69 suggested. All good choices.

Totally agree with you bro Luvgangsta on the info herein.
Shanghai is a metropolitan city, so much so when one shop at resppectable, well established big scale malls he/she would still be treated fairly and not being cheated.

Most cheating cases occur at small established shops, along streets, i.e. Maoming Rd, Shan Xi Rd. As I mentioned earlier, patronising such small shops, needs lots of haggling and bargaining skills. Not suitable for newbies or the weak-hearted ones.

As I worked in Gateway Building, I would recommended coming here to shop as mentioned by Bro Luvgangsta, being it's a larger scale mall than many others, well organised, most of all, with lots of selections & varities in brands and styles.............
