well, the thing with the women charter is that it gave the presiding judge a wide latitude to exercise his judgement. basically, a woman can have 0-100% of the combined assets and adultery does not automatically invalidate her claims on the assets and alimony.

I was totally surprised too when i found out that Singapore's law pertaining to divorce could be so damn bloody unfair to the men, but logic being logic and fairness being fairness.. there is NO FAIRNESS in the Divorce Law.. for adultery on the woman's side, they could be a slim chance they lose custody of the kids.. but adultery as the only reason still will not swing it that way unless you have other strong evidence to prove that she is not fit to be a good mother for the kids. And when she wins the custody of the kids.. 50% of whatever you have goes to her.. the car.. the house.. everything... and on top of that you pay alimony... ie you are financing her while now she can legally go fuck with other men as many as she likes.

So in the context of Singapore.. Divorce is a NO NO unless you have a BIG lump sum of wealth coming in and you are confirmed you dun want to have ever to share any of it with your current wife, and the LUMP sum is so big that the alimony looks tiny and you want to be able to enjoy your new found wealth with your new big tits wife-to-be.

But if the adultery is the fault of the man... well, well, well... then the Law becomes FAIR and hit you till you regret that you were ever born!

Therefore Divorce in the view of the man.. its purely a Business Decision and not an Emotional one.. you can never use Divorce to punish your wife.. it will be like pissing against the wind.

That is exactly the point!

Initially Mrs Lee just do it as a draft between both of them to tie up Mr Lee and he lan lan agree to all the things without reading thoroughly as he spent a lot of time in the street getting more supporters.. and when its time to implement the Law, due to his busy schedule, he just cut-and-paste from that draft and now we all kenna jialak jialak.

But ultimately, Mr Lee is not the ONLY person to be blamed for all this.. as this is the common mistakes of many-a-man in various era...
