Glacier came out from the airport. Reaching some where that he is not familiar. He needed some place where he could start his life anew. Somewhere quiet. Away from the bustling streets of the city. Upon reaching the place they call Hanoi. He took an overnight train to the destination he did research on. There he shared a cubicle that had only 4 small beds with 3 other people. He did not talk much and settled himself on the top bed which was just the size of a coffin.
He was thinking about Elizabeth and Fong. And he actually thought that meeting Fong would end his life that he hoped for so much but it did not happen. He was also thinking about Leng, who stayed single for his sake. He took out the small can of liquor and took a sip of XO and slept. He arrived on the destination and still he had to take another 2 hours by car. And there was this man who was asking about his name. Driver: Glacier? Glacier: Yes. Driver: Alright. Let's go. The driver kept asking questions about every single time and Glacier just kept silent until the driver stopped. He came out of the car when they arrived and the view that greeted him was simply breathtaking. He looked at the majestic view of paddyfields where villagers were harvesting the grains of rice. The air was fresh and inviting. This might be just the place he wanted to be. Where he could live in peace. And this was the place they called SAPA. Everything looked so scenic. Glacier looked about and took a slow walk. Each step onto the natural soil felt so relaxing. The air was cold and fresh. He stretched out his hands and took a deep breath.
Inhale. Exhale. Perhaps this would be a good place for him to stay for some time. A voice from behind him nearly scared him out of his wits. "Hi. Do you need help?" Glacier looked behind and a teenage girl waved her hand. She wore a red headdress, with a black cloth with nice embroidery, where a colorful woven fabric bag slung on her shoulders. Glacier: I'm fine. I'm just looking around. "I can help you though." Glacier: Sure, if you don't mind. "I'm Sam." Glacier: Glacier. Pleased to meet you. She offered a handshake and Glacier shook it warmly. Sam: So how long will you be here? 1 week? Glacier: I'm not sure. Perhaps longer? Sam nodded her head as she brought me around, telling me about the climate, the things they grow and the kind of food they have available. Sam: Where are you living? Glacier: I'm not sure. I have not made any arrangements. Sam: Let me bring you to a good one. Follow me. Glacier nodded and left. She then bring him to one classic and helped him arrange the check in. Glacier got a room and he was on his way when Sam asked him. Sam: Do you need me to accompany you? Say, tonight? Glacier arched his eyebrows. Glacier: I guess I could have a companion though. Sam: Great. Let's go. She said as she hooked on Glacier's arm and went to the hotel room. She took off her red headdress and her hair fall, revealing a nicely curled brown hair that framed up her nice squarish face. There was highlights on her hair which made her looks even prettier. Her rosy cheeks paired with her small eyes. Her flat nose and pink natural lips. She wasn't the really gorgeous babe like Kyle was but its the simplicity of her looks which made her stand out. Sam tried to undress but Glacier stopped her. Glacier: No, not that Sam. Not that. Sam: Am I not attractive enough? Glacier: You are very pretty but I'm not in the mood for this now. Perhaps later ok? Do you mind? Or would you want to go off now? My wallet's there. If you want to get it and leave. I will not restrict you on how much you want to take. Sam smiled and shook her head. Sam: Sure. I will stay here with you. Go take your shower Glacier. She took a peep at Glacier and was shocked to see the numerous scars he had on his back. And she saw the pendant he wore around his neck. The exquisite pocket watch. She was wondering who Glacier might have been. But there was this assurance that he is not a bad man. Just how long have I been alive? Glacier asked himself.
It has been more than 50 years since Fong died. He let the water drench him. Hoping that it would wash away the pain he had in him. He came out from the shower room, seeing Sam sleeping soundly on his bed. He went out to the balcony and smoked. Taking a view from his hotel, chilling out. Evening fell as he woke Sam up. Glacier: Sam, it's evening already. She woke up, rubbing her eyes and replied with a sleepy tone: Dinner? It took her a while to wake up and she asked if she could shower at the room. Glacier nodded as she went towards the bathroom. She did not close the door properly as Glacier switched on the tv and sat on the bed. The small opening cast a shadow on the floor with her silhouetted shadow moving. Her shadow was showing her hands on her hand, washing and massaging her head. Was this deliberate or was she just being careless? Glacier sat further behind the pillows so he could get a slight view of the small opening. He could see a glimpse of Sam's naked body, showering.
