Re: Now you see the power of women charter
Bro, dun underestimate the powers of the Family Court. The judge can order you to be jailed even if you are an undischarged bankrupt. They dun fucking care whether you got money onot..... but you MUST pay up or go to jail. The OA cannot interfere here although they are incharge of your financial affairs.

Re: Now you see the power of women charter
Sad that it has come to this. I think both of you are still very upset at each other and will not give an inch. Better to take a time out for the time being to cool down and then maybe arrange a meeting. The best is of course achieve a fast end and not let it drag, will end up more out of pocket, not to say the frustrations and anger.

At the end of the say, you and her were once lovers that got married. Even if it has to end, does not have to end in a stormy divorce. Give it some time and also yourself sometime too cool down so you can get a good gauge on the situation and see what you can realisticly offer her. She may want a lot more than you are prepared to give but as long as you get your sums correct, with the help of your lawyer, hope yet won't turn out too bad for you. |

Re: Now you see the power of women charter
To me, the Women Charter is outdated as it was drawn up many years ago when women participation in the workforce was relatively lower and many women depended on their husband for money. So it was drawn up to protect them, hence the "women" in the name of the charter. With so many ladies in the workforce now and narrowing of the salary disparity between guy and gal, it is high time the charter is revamped to show more equal treatment.

Re: Now you see the power of women charter
The following is my humble 0.5 cents on the fairness of the charter.
For all it is worth, I must say that the Women Charter is created during a time when women are the disadvantaged lot; when their earning power are considerable lower than their male counterparts, and that many women who are wholly dependent on their husbands financially cannot make ends meet when their marriage ended in a divorce and their ex-husbands refuse to pay any form of alimony. The Women Charter thus serve as a last form of security to the women who spent their best years of their lives in the failed marriage, without much hope of obtaining a emotional support in the form of a life partner in the then conservative society. For these reasons, even we as men have to admit that the creation of this charter then is necessary and important. Having said that, times have certainly changed and women are increasingly able to fend themselves... and with greater awareness about the Women Charter, it is easier for women to 'abuse' the charter (easier does not equate to women definitely 'abusing' the charter, if abusing is really the right word to use), hence leading to the perceived observation that the charter is not fair. I, for one, am of the view that the charter is necessary even now, and efforts are definitely made to make sure that the charter serve only as a last resort protection when the marriage ultimately fails, and not as an unfair advantage to women. Unfortunately, in dealing with monetary matters (maintenance) that are inseparable from emotions, which is itself subjective in nature, the objective and emotionless (which are definitely good elements in maintaining impartiality) legislature becomes too inflexible and insensitive. Therefore, in my own humble view, the Women Charter is necessary, yet imperfect with its inherent flaws that are difficult to fix, rather than unfair. I empathise deeply with the bros here who feel victimised by this charter, and other men suffering financially and emotionally from the painful reminders of a failed marriage in the form of maintenance payments. Ditto for the female sufferers who gave their all in the marriage and had their dreams of growing old with their beloved crushed by a divorce. While the charter can help them make ends meet, or even be more financially well-off, it is, afterall, scant consolation as compared to a happy marriage. Ultimately, marriage is a life-altering commitment between two parties in more levels than just love simply. It is only wise to think extremely carefully about all aspects of living together before getting married, and to take even greater care to make and maintain a happy bonding for life. With this, I end my wordy post... and I sincerely wish everyone to be even more happier with every passing day. Have a happy day! |

Very sad and 无语了 ....... 丧权辱国 My lawyer just advised that i better accept her revised offer of 5 times increase on the maintenance of the kids, before she uses the WC to force me to review my income ... then the maintenance could be more Younger Bros out there, An very sad experience to share so that we can ponder first before getting married (but me not an anti-marriage just reminding us to get the right woman), ..... ha ... or maybe we should start a "Sillypore man union" to fight this women charter: Summarise the case: Ex dumped me for been a failure in business, carrying tons of debts tat time.... ok can still understand But after 7 years of hard work, cleared the debts and "East mountain rise again" with a big leap of income. Then she dump me again but this time to the family court to ask for an valuation. ..... she enrolled the kids to all kind of lessons & tuitions, go for all kind of body check up ... from flat foot to dental to psychologies to mount up the kid expenses After six months of recording such expenses throw me to court and claim for an valuation that not even a U-grad after working for 4-5 years can get monthly Finally settled at 5 times increase, but after rounds of negotiating. BUT most angry of all .... to shorten the procedure, her lawyer advised her to claim that i did not pay the maintenance & a cents to support the kids for 3 years. Almost less than 2 weeks, hearing is due. Though i proofed with black & white that i have paid her regularly and even more than i required, the court did not even questioned her why she lied .... just give me 2 weeks to consider the valuation amount How can the court simply did not even question on the dishonest statement made by her ............. how unfair |

Re: Now you see the power of women charter
I assume you are referring to the CPF monies from the sale of the matrimonial home..... if sale amount is more than what you owe CPF you can use to pay her...... but dun play play with CPF money cos even if they allow you to use it you will still have to put back what you took out .... with interest
