Do agree Emilee and Hardy their experience on stage help. In fact I felt they are the better bands around Singapore (well Europa always have good bands) and always enjoy their rendition of repertoire

Think the judges are playing down their hype, and get them to go beyond just lounge image into total Idol of wider public fans, media and exposure

Over the weekend, rumours have been circulating on the Singapore Idol forum that Wildcard contender Meryl Joan Lee is quitting the competition. It is now official. The 17-year-old Raffles Junior College student has withdrawn from the competition to concentrate on her studies.

Before the dust even settles on the Mathilda-Nurul swap (Mathilda had to settle for Wildcard after it was discovered that there was a computer glitch which led to the wrong results. Nurul Maideen, a Wildcard contestant, eventually took up the spot in the Top 12) Singapore Idol has met with yet another hiccup.

Wildcard contestant Meryl Joan Lee, 17 has officially called it quits and will not be performing at this Wednesday's Wildcard show.

Says Meryl, “I'm unable to handle my studies as well as the Singapore Idol competition at the same time due to rigorous schedule.”

The second-year Raffles Junior College is known among the Singapore Idol contestants as a serious-minded student who sees her studies as top priority.

Reactions from the remaining seven Idols ranged from being ‘very shocked' to ‘surprised' to ‘wishing her all the best'. Only fellow Wildcard contestant Norman Then, 18, who knew Meryl from the Top 100, was not surprised at her decision.

“I knew she is a very committed to her studies. Studies to her, is like eating. She has been sacrificing a lot for the show in terms of her studies. I'm happy for her when she decided to quit. I wish her good luck and don't forget me.”

There will be no replacement for Meryl. The remaining seven Wildcard contestants – Mathilda De Silva, Norman Then, Primero Ang, Gayle Nerva, Jay Lim, Choy Siew Woon and Geraldine Chua will be competing for the remaining four spots in the Top 12.
