Bule women drive through Bali streets in nothing but bikinis (and helmets)
Time to put some clothes on: Bule women drive through Bali streets in nothing but bikinis (and helmets)
If getting a tan and flaunting your stuff is more important to you than decency or heck, safety, then you probably need to check your priorities. A picture posted to Facebook by Linda Abel shows some ladies riding their motorbikes through Bali traffic. Without any clothes on, just bikinis. We can't help but be reminded of the time we compiled a collection of 8 times bules in Bali probably should have put more clothes on. This occasion is certainly worthy of that list. As one commenter pointed out, at least they're wearing helmets? |

Bali-bound Lion Air flights diverted because of terrible weather
Bad weather conditions on Wednesday resulted in the diversion of two Lion Air flights destined for Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport. The first flight, JT 32 Jakarta-Denpasar, with a 10 am takeoff time, was diverted to Surbaya’s East Juanda Airport to wait out the storm and safer conditions in Bali. The second Lion Air flight, IW 1821 Kupang-Denpasar, at 10:50 am, was diverted to Lombok. Normal flight activities resumed again in Bali at about 11:50 am, despite steady showers, according to Nusa Bali. Ngurah Rai spokesman Awaluddin confirmed the news on Wednesday. “It’s true, two flights were diverted due to bad weather today. One from Jakarta and one from Kupang. But now flights are back to normal,” Awaluddin said yesterday, as quoted by Nusa Bali. The day before, two flights from Bali to two different cities in Flores, had to turn back around and were rescheduled because of weather conditions. The weather this past week has been exceptionally stormy in Bali, as we're right in the peak of rainy season, according to BMKG. |

Some people just won't respect other people's culture, they just want to do what they wanted.

Bali tourists get out of taxi taking them way off course, driver steps on gas before they can get their stuff from the trunk
A taxi driver has been arrested in Bali for making off with a trunk-full stuff belonging to his passengers. Taxi driver Alfridus Tunais, 22, allegedly ditched his passengers, an Australian family, in Kuta on Tuesday with a reported Rp 300 million worth of stuff still in the taxi. Amazingly enough, the Australian family reported the driver to the police and the police apprehended the man within hours. Kuta Police Commissioner I Wayan Sumara explained that the Australian family of three were taking the taxi after shopping at Discovery Mall and were headed towards Mega Hotel Boutique on Jl. By Pass Ngurah Rai. While they were driving, the driver apparently changed course and started heading towards Denpasar. “The victims began to question the suspect. You see, the victims usually payed Rp 40k for this trip from the mall, but this time it was Rp 60k,” Sumara said in a press conference on Thursday afternoon, as quoted by Nusa Bali. Feeling cheated, the family asked the driver to stop. Turns out they were all the way in south Denpasar on Jl. Tukad Yeh Aya. When the family moved to take their shopping from the trunk, the driver just stepped on the gas and fled, according to Sumara. The family immediately reported the driver, who was tracked down to an address in Ungasan. Though he wasn’t in Ungasan, police say they found him hiding out in a boardinghouse nearby in Jimbaran. From Tunais, police say they confiscated evidence in the form of two iPhone 6s, a Samsung Note, gold jewelry, and other valuables. The driver is facing charges carrying up to five years in prison, according to Sumara. |

Monkeys share 'banging' moment atop a tourist's head in Ubud Monkey Forest
The cheeky monkeys of Ubud Monkey Forest have done it again. Earlier this month, a macaque pantsed a guy at the famous Bali tourist attraction. Now the Ubud monkeys seemed to have upped their mischief to a whole new level. A gif going around on Bali social media shows a guy setting up for a typical tourist-type photo with outstretched arms and a monkey on his shoulder. But things get interesting when a second monkey hops on and starts pounding the first one… The result is a whole lot of awkward stares and hysterical laughter. And can we all just take a moment to appreciate this guy gaping in the background? |

FPI leader Rizieq Shihab to face police questioning over pornography accusation
FPI leader Rizieq Shihab to face police questioning over pornography accusation related to sex scandal rumors
The leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), Rizieq Shihab, has not been having a very good week so far. On top of being named a suspect by the West Java police for insulting the state ideology of Pancasila and founding father Sukarno, he’s also having to deal with rumors of a sex scandal after information, including audio recordings, photos and chat logs, was anonymously posted on Sunday purporting to detail his adulterous affair with a woman named Firza Hussein. Rizieq and other FPI officials have dismissed the information as slanderous lies manufactured by his political enemies to destroy his reputation. But the truth about the rumors have now become a legal issue, as police have announced that they will be questioning Rizieq and Firza about the leaked information as part of an official investigation. "Yes, for sure, we will definitely [question Rizieq and Firza about the case], then we will ask for information," said Jakarta Police spokesperson Argo Yuwono on Wednesday as quoted by Detik. The legal justification for their investigation into the scandalous rumors is a criminal report, filed by the Anti-Pornography Student Alliance on Monday, which reported three sites (including a site titled “'baladacintarizieq”, which is believed to be the original spreader of the leaks) for hosting the highly explicit information about the alleged affair in violation of Indonesia’s Pornography Law and Information and Electronic Transaction Law (UU ITE). Police deemed the report to have enough merit to warrant further investigation, which is why Rizieq and Firza will be questioned about it. They have not yet made clear if either of the two could be potential criminal suspects in the case. Indonesian law prohibits both the creation and distribution of pornography. A somewhat similar sex scandal case, involving leaked information, infamously led to the imprisonment of musician Nazril “Ariel” Irham in 2010. Firza was arrested by police on Tuesday, although not in relation to the sex scandal rumors, but for treason allegations. Firza was also one of the 11 people arrested on December 2 for her involvement in an alleged treason plot. |

Cities around Indonesia ban Valentine’s Day celebrations in schools, hotels, nightclubs
In what has become an annual tradition almost as old as the holiday itself, various cities throughout Indonesia have banned celebrations of Valentine’s Day tomorrow. Most of the cities affected have specifically prohibited students from participating in the Western holiday associated with romance. Education Departments that have announced bans this year include those in Depok, Tangerang, Bogor, Semarang and Tasikmalaya. The West Java Education Department has also issued a blanket ban on Valentine’s Day celebrations in school. Public Valentine’s celebrations have also been banned in Ambon with the justification that it could disturb the peace before the city’s mayoral election on Wednesday. The Blitar branch of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) banned Valentine’s Day celebrations as haram, saying that it promotes negative things like sex, smoking and drinking, which is contrary to Muslim culture. In addition to schools, the government of Sukabumi, West Java, has also banned nightclubs and hotels in the city from holding Valentine’s Day celebrations or even putting up Valentine’s “attributes” (sorry, Cupid), which they said could lead to immoral acts like prostitution and drug trafficking. The only person we could find speaking up in defense of Valentine’s Day was Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi, who said he was surprised to see a letter from his city’s education department banning celebrations of the holiday in schools as it had not been coordinated with him. Hendrar said he was surprised because Semarang has long been known as a very tolerant city, especially in terms of religious harmony, and that they did not adopt policies that could provoke or foster intolerance. |
