Jun, just for your info - if the joint owners of a HDB flat are dead, their child/children will inherit the flat w/o questions. This is especially true if their child/children are the listed occupants and they are above 21 y.o. (no-will inheritance Act)

For your case, since you are the only kid, the house will sure go to you; it would not go to HDB or Public Trustee

bro Jun..u are very lucky to inherit the flat of about $290-$300k from your parents.

Probably u can use half of it to buy a house in bkk( outskirt) and stay with your tirak and start a small business.

I have seen siblings fighting over a 170k flat.

Lets say life expectancy goes up to age 75. The block will be Over 30 yrs.

Properties with leases between 30 and 59 yrs will have lower CPF withdrawal Limits based on the residual value of the Property. Buyers will not fancy such kind of flat.

But who knows the market in 30 yrs time???

I only think those who can buy the flat themselves are in a better position to be better than some of their peers who can't buy, rather than hope for durian to drop.

Judging from the upgrading trends, flats which are >30 years will get either face-lift or demolished, just hope kena enblock then can sell it off with a 50% (and more) premium

People who are obsessed with parent's fortunes are those who do not have the fortunes themselves. Most people in SG don't even think of that as most of them are independent. They plan to buy their own house with their own money even if they are the only child.

Also, I do not believe that anyone under the age of 30 in SG, or for that matter even 35, owns bonds, etc. People of this age don't talk about this type of things. At most, they have some shares and insurance. If they say they have, simple, show me.. and then only I believe. Talk is cheap....

Some people here might wonder why despite facing so much bombardment and criticisms from the bros here,why am i still posting?So i would like to explain why then.

Reason being that I am obtained many precious info from here while i relate my story here.Things like instead of selling the flat,i could have rented it out for 5yrs?then the rent collected can pay for my house in bkk monthly.In this way i still get the flat and the house in bkk.Also i learned more about the educational system for bkk when bkkmaster mentioned about the vocational college and stuff.Not to mention the idea of maxing the loan of 30 yrs for a new house under the thai wife.Without me starting all these posts,i guess all this will not be under discussion which will deny me the info.Some people learn all this thru friends,family,internet or whichever.Its a good start whereby i can know how to deal with all that.
