LOS is actually not tat bad as seen in the media. Life goes on as per normal here, I lived thru the military coup, the new year bombings, etc. I stayed in BKK throughout these events!

Or maybe, after I quit SG, I really seen & been thru tat many stuffs tat I wouldnt if I'd remained in SG; ie. typhoons, earthquakes, demonstrations / protest / labor strikes (I myself led 1, against my former coy where the GM was from SG, & tried 2 use SG law & practice 2 manage ops & pple in China!!!), military coup, terrorist bombings, etc etc. Until these are no shocks & probably juz not unusual events 2 me now. I'd ever walked right into labor protests twice, cos I dun understand the language & dun really know wat's going on!!!

In the modern business world, we deal wif many pple from many countries, all over the world. But the older folks' times are different, that I can totally understand. Cos my parents are similar. Anyway, everyone / family has their own concerns / thoughts / worries when talking about relocating / migration. 1 case / scenario / example cant apply 2 everyone.

Well, I believe the SG Govt is oso aware of the quality of the "talents" they're getting. But, until 2day, how forthcoming are they in admitting mistakes? Face / pride / ego is still so important, tat excuses are still sought & given, 2 cover asses. I totally agree wif u, the cream of those talents are unlikely 2 come SG. I saw the PRC Chinese, the cream are still in China. Even the cream among the WLs are oso in there. It's those who lose-out in the intense competition out there, tat's seeking refuge outside, then regarded as talents by SG!

I'd personally spoken 2 several real talents, they all said similar things: they're paid well, but expenses in SG's oso damn high, compared 2 many other countries! Plus, the environment & demand on them, they simply dun like it!!!

Wat can we expect, tat someone's policy & mentality is graduates breed graduates, scholars breed talents? Who's born with a silver (should be golden oredi) spoon, has no commercial experience, no life / survival fighting experience, yet still can be Govt & lead the country? Everything needs 2 be "measured", whether the "measurement tool" is effective / practical anot oso dunno. U score As & Distinctions in yr studies, u can try apply / squeeze yr way into the "talent" classification.

bro 84gunner, saw yr post yesterday but didnt have time to reply. glad to know that u r well in LOS in spite of all the commotion there. can see that u r quite the kaypoh as well, labour strikes and all. the only thing i have remotely walked into that might harm my sorry ass was probably the swaying buildings in +++yo during an "earthquake", that was just once. my jap colleagues told me not to worry cos it was just a rumbling, a baby by their reckoning. my whole face must be damn pale cos they got me to sit down and got a very pretty OL to bring me some tea to calm my nerves.

for my family, i will never leave them. my future wife (if any) has to understand that, otherwise i will ask her to go even if she looks like elva hsiao. so, it is an informed choice of mine to be stuck here, at least for the moment. hoping the day would come when even my parents r disgusted with this place that they r the ones to tell me to pack my bags and go with them.

graduates might have a higher chance of breeding graduates, that is something i have to concede. but my question is: graduate from where? i have seen US grads, having starting pay of USD70k/yr end up looking like idiots. i could get my 2 A levels pass manager from here in sg and bring her over there and take over the jobs of 10 of these guys. lessons from life r more impt, the degree only helps in the 1st step. i never had to bring out my degree to show anyone after my 1st job. i swear to god i would slap the bugger who ever dares to ask me to show my degree. but then again, i have never applied to the public sector.

well, initially, I didnt care / bother, until I oso became a victim of it; SG management practices such as no OT pay for most levels (which in PRC, OT has to be paid at many levels), playing punk on bonus payouts (declare oredi then say tat manager has no authority to declare, so no count, or last minute transfer pple away, rendering them not eligible 4 bonus, etc etc), taking advantage of foreign employees' salaries via exchange rate (2 company favor of course), then still wanna apply SG Law??? Tat project's problems (incl our labor strike) led 2 the downfall of the GM (an SGPean) in China, & the SGPean VPs under him oso left / had 2 leave subsequently!

Still remember a great one in Shanghai, the mamasan drove 2 city 2 pick us up ard midnite, then drove 2 the "battle ground", somewhere outskirt of Shanghai, in some holiday villa, like chalet like tat. The gals are damn pretty, good solid figure, v obedient / obliging & professional!!! Felt like King like tat!! It's expensive in many PRC standards, but, for 580 RMB, each person had each chalet unit 2 ourself (like a hotel suite!), until 5 or 6 am!!! Food, drinks / coffee / tea, fruits, all inclusive, of course facilities oso 1st class!

I'd say, it's the typical Authoritarian. Treat their own pple better abit, they feel they're giving in 2 complaints / demands of the pple, they look afraid, they feel they are "losing face".

When I interview pple, those candidates tat try 2 show me their "colorful" papers will kinda make me unhappy liao. I wont bother about those papers, but grill them (all candidates) on wat they had done, wat they can do, cant do, etc etc.

I'd interviewed Masters degree holders (I only basic degree from Perth, no honors nothing, many subjects barely scrap thru type) & NUS / NTU watever honors holders / graduates, many oso chow tar (grilled until peng san, cant answer my questions).

HR asked me 1st few times, my VP oso questioned me once. I gave them my reasons, and after tat, no questions asked anymore. Whenever HR ask me interview candidates, they'll say good luck to him / her. But those pass my interview one (so far only 20%), everyone oso impressed & like them!

great adventure in PRC, eh? no such luck in sg or anywhere else i've worked, except for witnessing a protest in korea but u-turned when we saw that the students staging the protest were carrying molotov cocktails.

glad that yr parents r supportive. i always bring back brochures for australian properties but my mum is always complaining that sure cannot find mahjong kakis on a regular basis.

as for the FLs in macau, it's just my personal gut feel cos the gals there really swee!!! and i like their modus operandi there as i always go with friends who know the place well. the price is very standardised and the "law" there always ensure that we have a good time with no trouble. that's customer retention at its best for me. dont mind paying a little extra as the girls will never try anything funny. and for yr info, i m an ah beng at heart too, even i m educated in the best institutions in sg. but beng, i m. my uni mates will certainly attest to that. i got to sample good quality in shanghai as well and quite a number of them did try to become my gf, but to no avail. girls in shanghai r smart and more often than not, we sillyporeans r still quite good catches due to our dear women's charter and the fact that not many of us would beat our wives, as compared to guys from the home country.

i dont want to talk anymore about the sg govt, else later end up bankrupt or worse, internal security act. but the last word is that i certainly dont feel proud about being a sillyporean right now.

as for interviews, thank god i m relieved of that responsibility as my boss felt that i would actually siphon off otherwise good candidates.

haha, no choice. bro 84gunner replied me and u can see he really made the effort to reply me mah. so deduct points then so be it lor. as long as i dont scold too many people, my points should be enough to last a while. as long as i get such sincere replies for my postings.

the molotov cocktails were a tad too much for my liking but i liked their passion about what's happening in the country. wish i could have that kind of passion, fighting for what they believe is good for their own nation. but comes world cup, the whole country behaved damn well and showed the world what a great country they r and man, look at korea's support for their national football team, relentless and so unconditional.

what impressed me most about macau was that the service providers were of impressive but somewhat infamous background. but they dont use this to make $ cos i can safely say they have every ability to do so. instead, they provide such good personal service that customers like me would be dreaming of returning. inevitably, i always compare teh service i m getting when i cheong to the 2 times i went to macau. was really sad i had to go. imagine a man whole body filled with dragon tattoos telling me that if i m not happy with the girl's performance, he will get another FOC for me. when i was done, i tipped the girl a bit more. then came the phone call from our dear friend, asking me how? good or not? if not good, he send another girl up. he also added that if i did tip the girl the amount, in case she stole from me? just for this gesture, i have recommended all my clients and friends to go look for him if they decide to stop by macau. that's ah beng, not having gone to uni, provides tiptop service. oh, btw, he's not OKT, he's more of a niteclub manager.

i got relieved of interview duties cos i reject too many candidates after 1st interview. my boss was left with not too many to interview and besides that, she had nothing much to do cos our teams all on auto mode liao. still remember once i interviewed this master degree guy who had a lot of other certifications and was from a reputable MNC for a whole of 15 minutes and told him that he wont expect to hear from me. all certs n no initiative cos his reason for leaving was that he was tired of having to wait for his chance to lead projects. i tot if u wanted responsibility, u had to open yr mouth and ask for it. let her know that i say this about her, i think she will interview me and make me buy her drinks. so not what u think, i dont eat and shit in the same place.

oh n btw, if i dont remember wrongly, u r chelsea fan right? so, pls ask chelsea to win the league this season. that would be a big consolation for me... hahaha
