Re: Please be careful - Daylight Robbery
i am a malaysian myself, feel very dissappointed the kinds of crimes that occur in JB but guess i need to tell bros who fight back to watch for those fire arms. coz in the past few years my relatives a few whom sold gold in malaysia were broken into and robbed and 1 of them kena shot.
so just a warning, hang around city square if u have to during weekends or else on weekdays you are exposing yourself to danger only as there can only be a few targets walking around the place. |

RM1.5m for new CCTV cameras for JB
Report from The STAR dated Wednesday 22 August 2007 :-
RM1.5m for new CCTV cameras for Johor Bahru JOHOR BARU : The city council will spend RM1.5mil to install 12 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras around the city’s central business district. Mayor Datuk Mohd Naim Nasir said the cameras would increase security and safety around the city. “This new batch of CCTVs will supplement the existing 18 cameras already installed. “We have spent about RM2mil to equip the city with the cameras,” he said at a press conference. Mohd Naim also said that two new police beat bases would be built in Jalan Meldrum and Legaran Seget. “We also have a new 24-hour hotline for the public to call for any complaints. “The complaints will be channelled to other departments such as the police,” he said, adding that the public should call 1-300-800-146. He said the city council would make sure that more streetlights were put up in certain areas to deter crime. Acting state police chief Senior Asst Comm I Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said 49 probationary inspectors would be sent out to perform beat duty. “We are catering to the public’s call for an increased police presence,” he said. --- KatoeyNewsNetwork |

CCTVs installed to improve security in Permas Jaya, JB
Report from The STAR dated Wednesday 22 August 2007 :-
CCTVs installed to improve security in Permas Jaya. Johor Bahru JOHOR BARU : Three closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been installed at strategic locations in Permas Jaya to improve security in the area. Pasir Gudang MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said installing the CCTVs did not indicate the area was crime-prone. He said the move was to ensure more security for the people there. “The people have high expectations of us. As leaders, we have to work hard to give more facilities to the people,” he said at the launch of the CCTVs during a community programme in Permas Jaya on Saturday. Mohamed Khaled hoped the community would give their full support to the local council and police to make the place a more comfortable and safer place. Johor Baru city council mayor Datuk Mohd Naim Nasir said it was the council's responsibility to provide the best service to the people. He added the council regularly conducted checks on restaurants to make sure they were clean. --- KatoeyNewsNetwork |

Hi-tech police van to start patrols in JB soon
Report from The STAR dated Thursday 23 August 2007 :-
Hi-tech police van to start patrols in JB soon JOHOR BARU : The first hi-tech police patrol vehicle is expected to start cruising the city soon. The mobile patrol vehicle is installed with advanced devices and linked to the 30 closed circuit television (CCTV) units set up in strategic locations. Johor Baru mayor Datuk Mohd Naim Nasir said the patrol van, manned by police personnel, was like a mobile operations centre. He said the patrol team would be able to monitor situations on the streets wherever it is. “If this works, the idea and system may be used in the whole Iskandar Development Region. “We will do whatever we can to ensure the safety of everyone in Johor Baru,'' he said. Mohd Naim said the project, a joint operation between City Hall and the police, was part of plans to build a smart, safe and comfortable city to live in and work. Also planned is the setting up of an additional 12 CCTVs and four nomadic cameras for the patrol vehicle. Locations for the CCTVs include Jalan Tebrau, Komtar building, City Square and Holiday Plaza. Currently, 18 CCTVs are installed in areas under City Hall jurisdiction. Mohd Naim said the RM1.5mil project is expected to be completed within this year. “We hope to have 69 CCTVs by 2010,'' he said while leading reporters on a tour of the operations centre at Menara Tabung Haji here yesterday. The mayor also showed reporters a video clip captured by a CCTV of a man and his friends destroying a pedestrian barricade in the town centre. He said the group was later arrested by police. Mohd Naim said the first three CCTVs were set up in 2001 to monitor and control traffic flows along Jalan Tebrau, a main access road into the city. Johor deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm (I) Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Sharif said the existing 18 CCTVs have proven to be effective in checking crime. --- KatoeyNewsNetwork |

Charred body found in burnt car
Report from The STAR dated Friday 24 August 2007 :-
Charred body found in burnt car PONTIAN, Johor : The charred remains of a woman who was found in the trunk of a burnt Proton Wira on Wednesday is believed to be the 44-year-old sister of the car's owner. Pontian deputy OCPD Supt Muzamil Hashim said police tracked the car's registration number and went to the owner's home in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah on Thursday. "We discovered the owner was alive and working in Singapore. "However, we were told by the owner's mother that the sister had taken the car out at 10pm on Wednesday night and had not returned," he said, adding that the sister worked as a wedding planner. However, DSP Muzamil said police could not be certain until the post-mortem result was obtained and DNA samples were compared. "Initial investigations did not reveal that the victim was murdered at the location or elsewhere. "We have no suspects as of yet," he said when contacted here Friday. On Wednesday, the charred remains of a woman was found in the trunk of the burnt car. The body and the car were discovered at about 4.30pm at an oil palm estate in Kuala Kabung here. Some members of the public discovered the burnt car and quickly alerted the police. Policemen who arrived on the scene discovered the body in the boot of the car, charred beyond recognition and no identification or personal documents were recovered. --- KatoeyNewsNetwork |
