Thanks in advance.

Bro Harley, don't worry about me la; to quote bro Ascott, I'm very "guai" one. You should worry about him - as the saying goes, "old ginger very hot". For me, I'd stick to coffee and pool - you can still wet your lips and enter some holes.

That similar stuff for C... - haven't tried that and not sure if it works. Do remember that an unsuspecting party may cry foul - anyway I'm not advocating you do it or not; ultimately it's your call. When you're back here, I'll take you to the shop where you may find a few varieties. Then we'll all anxiously await your own FR!

Someone mentioned before that this thread shouldn't degenerate into a personal messaging service - so for the benefit of fellow samsters, we're referring to a pick-me-up Chinese herbal pill which I'd recommended to several people (including ang-mos) and the feedback so far has been good.

Those interested may pm me - I don't sell the pill of course, I'd just give you directions to the shop where you may buy it. I'm not promoting it either - you take it at your own risk.

Good makan place

Decent02,

I will always recommend Jade Garden. They have 3 shops around but would choose the one at 127, Mao Ming South Road. Tel: 54037028.
Then, for traditional Shanghainese food, I would recommend the Shanghai Old Restaurant at YuYuen. It is at the entrance and when you visit this tourist attraction by cab, you won't miss it.

For western food, go to 'M at the Bund'.
Hope these are enough.

Peking Duck in Shanghai

The most popular restaurant serving Peking Duck in Shanghai would be Quan Ju De at 786 Huai Hai Zhong Lu (by Ruijin Er Lu), 4th storey (tel: 5405 5799). The walls are lined with photos of dignitaries & celebrities from all over the world.

Bro,

One of the best food place is called "Liu Hui Guan" at XinTianDi, 2nd floor. This is really really good food that even locals admit it! The drawback is that the prices can be a little pricey though. May cost about S$40-60 per pax if you order the really good dishes. The season is in now for crabs and this is one of the best place to eat them, other than outside towns.

Reservations is recommended. Their tel number is : 8621 6385 0188

There is a website that had done a review on them. Go to :http://sh.sina.com.cn/eat/20030220/14505882.shtml

Cheers and Enjoy!

By the way, the prices at Quan Ju De are reasonable.

Other recommendations are :-

(1) Shanghai Conservatory of Music Restaurant - 20 Fen Yang Lu (off Huai Hai Zhong Lu) tel: 64372577
This is a nice little quaint restaurant situated within the premises of the renowned university. Food is good and very cheap.

(2) Vegetarian Lifestyle - 77, Song Shan Lu (off Huai Hai Zhong Lu, adjacent to Tai Ping Yang Shopping Centre) tel: 63848000 (www.jujubetree.com)
Good and reasonably-priced vegetarian food - during weekends, reservations are necessary. You'll get a 10% discount if you've an E-long card (this card is freely distributed at the train station and airports). No smoking and alcoholic drinks are not served here. They discourage wastage so if they think you're ordering too much, they'd gently remind you. Set lunches at RMB16 per person apart from the ala carte.

(3) Yandang Lu (off Huai Hai Zhong Lu)
I call this road the "other" pedestrian mall (bu xing jie). It's a short stretch of road which leads to Fuxing Garden where some popular nightspots are (Club 97, Guandi, Cashbox). It's lined on both sides by little restaurants and a few bars. You can find Western and Eastern food here - so take your pick.

I've recommended restaurants along or close to Huai Hai Zhong Lu because I reckon you'd be there often (it's Shanghai's Orchard Road to the Shanghainese). I seldom eat at Nanjing Dong Lu (the real bu xing jie) which others call SH's Orchard Road.

If you've a sudden craving for SG food whilst you're here, then there's none other than Silverspoon at Parkson Shopping Centre (5th storey) at Huai Hai Zhong Lu (Shanxi Nan Lu). Good Sg coffee at RMB10 per cup.

"Qian Long" a SH food restaurant located in the very popular food street. 72, wang hei lu (yellow river) tel : 632-76733 off the landmark Nanjing lu. Their Beijing duck is just simply superb.

Food are very good and price is very reasonable. This is my "must visit" restaurant whenever I am in SH....

Thanks Bro, you reminded me of this famous Beijing Restaurant. It's one of my favorite when I'm in Beijing

Hi Bro Bund,

Almost forgetting that Hot Pot is the best food to be eaten during winter times. Do you know in Shanghai where I can find "shuan yang rou" - the Mongolian style Hot Pot Beijing Style.

Sorry, I've never tried this kind of hotpot - there're several hotpot restaurants around though. Need a few recommendations?
