Ya you are rite, the other time I sign a spare line for the cheap handphone for my tirak when she came over to visit. I forgot to take the sim card back when she brought the phone home. I let it be as I will be flying over to BKK to meet up with her in few days time. KNN phone charges came up to almost 2k in less than 4 days! I found out she happy happy called up all her friends who were overseas.....even for those friends in Thailand she call & chat....all on roaming charges!!!

Internet's banking with TTs a given for SG banks. Slightly better rates (over cash/notes). But just be aware that credit across borders is not immediate or even 24 hours window (unlike remiitance shops). Can get caught up with inter bank and forex delays even up to 1 week (aka sitting on YOUR money) with weekends, hols not helping you. Maybe your tirak jump ship meantime?? Hehehe

Bro remittance shops not instant too subjected to /weekends/holidays also unless its Western Union (hence the expensive fees)....that's why bro's vmtech is most workable. If tirak comes to SIN then bring her go open account & get a debit card she can use it to sign for purchases back home too & can monitor her spending at same time.

wah, so long & inefficient ah? Even China's banks, well known for inefficiencies & tight control, oso can be effected within same - 2 business days!

My comment was only for my experiences (both business and private) with transfers with THB with a renowned international bank in SG. So let's put this in right perepective, SG banks no worse off than elsewhere. Just sharing pitfalls with others here, if $$ is expected like yesterday. Silly cross border currency controls (like thb/usd) and delays blamed on different receiving local banks etc. For business, swift code's essential to cut to the chase. For private, can entrust me, competitive fees...but no guarantees hor, I might lavish on your tirak kekekeke

Ok, thks for the info.
What is the rates they are charging for TT?
Coz for Bangkok Bank, they charge s$40 only inclusive of bank charges here and over there.
To enjoy better exchange rates, send your $$ over either in S$ or USD$ coz all these currency enjoy better rates over there.
The bank will automatically convert to thai baht.

S$40 is pretty steep. I would think Bangkok bank would charge lower for account holders....last time heard it was B$200 to a cap of B$500 only....maybe I was wrong.

Western Union charges according to amount, they got different tiers starting from $8 for tt below SGD175 to $32 for up to SGD 2580...I seldom tt more than that amount if need be I got other methods for tt larger amounts

My take is that she might encounter problems this way when she using it as a debit card signing for purchases (since its my name on the card)....I guess these are the pros & cons to weigh

oh, actually the perpose was actually for remitting perposes, not signing for purchases. signing for purchases with debit card incurrs a $5 transection fee everytime u sign, no point liao.

better u remit like say 20k to her and she goes to the atm and withdraw them out less S$5.
thai people... let them swipe card, they lose control 1. they already have such bad money mnaagement, giving them a "VIP" card makes things worse i think
